I'm sure it is a great game to watch.

 

But NCAA rules prohibit college coaches from watching all-star games and practices such as this. I guess NAIA coaches could go and perhaps that is beneficial to the players that participate.

 

I do know that NAIA coaches are there last year Georgetown and University of the Cumberlands both were at practices. Campbellsville was at the game.

The interesting thing about this game is the guys who work year around on this DO NOT have kids who have played in it or could play in for several years, which I see as some guys who really promote Kentucky kids as well as Tenn. kids.

 

It takes a lot of work to put it on, and they get zero benifit from it. What is am seeing is that they are getting some un-needed negative stuff from somebody who just does not get. What it is, is this.... It is all about the kids. I really don't care where the kids are from and who is on it,I am sure the comittee trys to get the best ones that they can but sometimes you miss on here and there. What really amazes me is how so many have jumped on board and have made this a great experience for the kids (Yes mine participated). It is something he will never forget, and he made friends with some of the guys and they still keep in contact.

 

The whole community gets behind it and trys to make is something special.

 

I am going to be there to watch again this year. I remember going the first year and the weather was terrific, last year it was cold but really it was just great football weather, so just bundle up, get a thermos of hot chocolate and enjoy a great mid winter HS football game.

How many knew there was a $300 entry fee required for those who have been selected and choose to play? That is a lot of money. Some of the players will not be able to pay this fee and will be unable to participate.

I did know that. I assume it's to defray some of the costs involved (the players get some type of Border Bowl ring as I recall). Perhaps if the Bowl grows big enough and starts making more money, in the years to come the participation fee or whatever it's called will go away.

 

I have no idea if the selection committee makes any exception for kids unable to afford the cost.

I think Kris Bolton and Octavian Crutcher are representing BSHS this year. Both are outstanding Linebackers and should do KY proud.

I wish the quote in your post and Ram's post did not make it appear that I had made the comment about when the real all star game was played. Katfish made that comment; not me.

I understand defraying the cost but $300 is a little pricey. Perhaps $75 would be easier to swallow. It is an honor but if you don't have the money . . . you just don't have the money. Anyway, maybe they need more sponsors so the fee can be lowered. Otherwise, a lot of players will have to decline the invitation no matter how big of an honor it appears to be. :(

I believe there are restrictions put on by the NCAA as to what recruits can receive, etc. This also applies to All-Star games. There are limits as to how much they can receive. I think that paying for the warmups, rings, etc. let's the Border Bowl provide a classy environment for the players, but stay within guidelines. Perhaps someone can clarify who has firsthand knowledge.

The money goes to the players, it isn't just payment to the coaches, college, etc. They receive really good meals, lodging, rings, clothing and exposure. Who can not come up with $300? I'm sure every school has a booster club that reserves some money for this, then there are businesses that wouldn't mind either I'm sure for their hometown star to represent them.

:thumb: Any school, coach, booster, friend of family would help raise, donate $$$ for a player to represent their school in an all-star game. I don't think any player would be deniened because they couldnt afford it.

I dont disagree with any of those points. My problem is I would think that all costs would be covered by Corporate sponsors leaving the kid with nothing but showing up and being rewarded for his hard work and acomplishments after his 3 yrs of High School football. If you cant get corporate sponsors to flip the whole bill then I just think it is a tad tacky to say the least to ask a kid or family or better yet a school to flip the bill. Besides that I think it just opens up an opportunity for some parent to scream that he wants his kids $300 worth of equal time on the field if it is coming out of Dads pocket. I just think someone might be opening up a can of worms. Of course this is jmo. Throw some of that Coal money at it, that oughta do it. :thumb:20n10
