I do not understand why people do not just concentrate on GT's posts!

 

It's not about Kelly lying to his players before the Pitt game to keep them focused, it is how he handled everything else. From telling people to run with the story then blast them just a few days later for asking him out it while being interviewed, to him telling the players last when they should have been among the first people outside of South Bend and his wife to know about it, then leaving out the back door to avoid the press.

 

BTW GT, what does the local press think about UC/Kelly banning them from the banquet just hours before it was to start?

How many of the UC players would have wanted Kelly to coach them in ethe Sugar Bowl knowing he's not the coach anymore? I know Mardy Gilyard wouldn't want that by the remarks he has made. He did this wrong and did these players wrong. If he cared about the players he would of told Notre Dame I have a season to finish and if ND really wanted him they would have let coach in the Sugar Bowl. Like stated before the dead period is coming up so there wont be any recruting going on by Kelly for ND so whats the rush? O'well get the hell out.

If he had a written agreement with ND to keep his mouth shut, he had no choice but to lie. Since we don't know, we can only assume. I really don't think it's as big a deal as some make it out to be, excluding GT since he's close to the program. I understand his anger, but even GT doesn't know if BK agreed to keep it under wraps. Yes, he could of handled it better but some people are acting ridiculous about this whole thing. Some of the crazy things people are saying on the radio is just nuts.

Also, I can't tell you how silly it sounds to me for people to call these young men kids, or in some cases, children. These kids/children are adults and can handle this. For crying out loud, we have young men and women their age serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and we're worrying about the UC players poor little psyche? This is one of the things I've been hearing on the radio that makes me laugh out loud.

I admit I'm a ND fan, but I'm a fan of a lot of college teams including UC (and Florida as well). I wish them the best in the Sugar Bowl and I hope they get a new coach that takes them even further. But as a guy that is a fan of UC football, I thank him for the great job he did and hope he does as well at ND.

It'll be fine folks, the players will hold their head high and play to the best of their ability come January 1st. Go Bearcats, Go Irish!

Put yourself in his shoes and tell me what you would do. I know I would be gone. This is a dream of his and a chance of a life time. Can't fault a person with chasing their dream. He owes nothing to UC! I'm not even sure if UC matched or beat ND contract that he would of stayed. Yeah the way he left sucked but that needs to be blamed on the NCAA. They need to push back recruiting a month so these coaches can finish out the year with their teams.

The thing about Kelly that makes him look bad, IMO, is the rant he had after the Pitt game ridiculing people about their sources....when he in fact was the source. He set the fire and was fanning the smoke, then claiming ignorance as to how the fire started and ranting and raving while holding the matches in his hand. He said he was being honest. That is funny right there.

He could have had a team meeting a few days before the banquet and told the players that I am weighing my options and it is something I am going to heavily consider, then moved on. That is being upfront to a point. Then it wouldnt have been a broadside.

Kelly couldnt wait. Notre Dame couldnt wait...that is why Edsall came into the picture. ND would have gone with Edsall, there were a lot of higher ups who really liked him....they in a sense forced Kelly's hand.

The bitterness towards Brian Kelly leaving just cracks me up. The writing has been on this wall since the Orange Bowl appearance last year and everyone just seems so shocked that Brian Kelly could leave Clifton for South Bend. You say Brian Kelly was not honest. I'm going out on a limb and I'm going to say that Brian Kelly did NOT tell his players he was not going to leave UC ever. It's time for UC fans to be honest. With every win you were more and more convinced that Kelly was going to leave. When ND lost to Navy you knew in your hearts where he was going. I guess it's just hard to face the reality of it when it actually happens. Consider the UC program like a fish bowl. The size of the bowl determines the size of the fish. With no history to compare to the big programs and a 38,000 seat stadium, this program is only going to get so big. UC fans be prepared for one of three things to happen with the new coach. He's going to be here a long, long time and never reach the heights that Brian Kelly and Mark Dantonio did. He's going to be here a short time and get fired because they are going to lose most of their games. He's going to win a lot of games, win the Big East and go to a BCS bowl and he's going to be wooed to another program. Decide now which one you want. Remember the option you chose and when he leaves, BE HONEST!

I made the mistake of trusting the word of a man I believed to be honest after dealing with him for 3 years. Now that the real story is coming out, his real character is clear...

I think some of you are missing the point. He didn't just decide to take the job while nothing was going on. He looked in his players eyes and told them he wasn't going anywhere. They believed in him, they trusted him. He flat out lied to their faces. They busted their tails off cause they believed him. We are talking about 18-21 year old kids...not grown adults.

 

I was watching the new last night and they interviewed Ben Guiduglis' dad. I agree that it's hypocritical to tell players that when they commit to a team, they have to stay committed or they get punished, but they people who these players are learning from can just pack up and go when something better comes along.

So they learned a valuable lesson, life isn't fair. How tragic for them, I mean really, come on. There are going to be a lot worse things in their life than their football coach lying to them about leaving. If they can't deal with this, God help them. Somehow, I think they'll be just fine.

Kelly coached his butt of for UC and as a reward, he was hired away by a program willing to pay him more, a program that was his dream job. He coached UC to an undefeated season, back to back Big East Championships that landed them in back to back BCS Bowl games. What a horrible guy. By all means, lets trash his reputation instead of just saying thanks for the ride and good luck in the future.
