It's totally different being put in a class based on your size and winning than kicking somone out and winning. I thought the saying was, "If you can't beat them, join them." It's changing to, "If you can't beat them, kick them out and leave the people that you think you can beat."

Hey, I am all for teaching the foundations and morals of the Bible in a public school like they do in a private school, but we have been told we can't "join them."

So the winner of the public school championship game can call themselves state champs and rightly so. It is simply another division. No different than separating out by class.

Like I said, Magnets are overrated. The difference is boundaries. Male and Butler have no resides area and the ability to to accept any kid in Jefferson County or to reject them. Because they have no home school area they can do that. Other public schools can not reject kids in their home school area.

I looked up June Buchanan on the 'net. I found their website, and it lists NOTHING about dorms. Further, their total attendence appears to be 1500, in grades K-12. They don't have a football team....and they're right next to Alice Lloyd College, and share alot of resources with them.

 

They have dorms for selected students. I'm not making this up.

 

I think it is about more than just St. X and T. I think the situation in Lexington put a log on the fire. I think the Rose Hill situation added another. I think the stat in the Herald Leader and linked in another thread that 48 of the 280 schools (17%) are private but have won 41% of the state titles since 1995 stoked the fire even more.

 

Exactly. :thumb: I don't blame the public school system for doing something against this, finally. There is a stigma with private schools that needs to be cleared up and the KHSAA may be doing that with their latest proposal.

 

As far as your comment about students in need that are talented athletes, I believe that this is the heart of the problem. There is a widespread belief out there that the private schools are offering financial aid on the basis of athletic ability.

I'm talking about at Moore and a bunch of other public schools, there are lots of kids that they would rather not have because they make bad grades and don't care. They get in disciplinary trouble. Moore can't kick them out if they are in the home school area. Male and Butler don't have that problem because they have no assigned home school area. They can kick out or accept anyone.

Since Lex Catholic and Sacred Heart have won the past 5 state basketball titles in girls, you can throw basketball in there too. And I believe Assumption or Notre Dame passes around the volleyball title. Sacred Heart hed the state title in volleyball, soccer and basketball all in the same season 2-3 years back. Presently, they are #1 in the state and ranked nationally in soccer. Did not Owensboro Catholic not win the state softball title recently?

Looks like the public schools have some work to do. Well, besides kicking these schools out of the KHSAA.

lots of discipline measures. Basically you go to Buechel if you are a repeat offender, like a big repeat offender and you do serious stuff such as fight a lot or bring drugs into school. You take a timeout and go to Buechel for awhile, or you just get suspended but if that student lives in the home school area the school has to take him or her back. At Male and Butler they just kick those kids totally out of the school and never have to deal with them again. Or they look at their middle school records and decide that they don't want to accept them before they get there.

 

They should scrap Magnets and all this extra bussing and build another alternative school in my opinion. Discipline is what messes up the classroom experience and prevents the full learning experience.
