4A Final: Boyle County 42 Lone Oak 39 2OT

Featured Replies

Great win for Coach French, Coach Hester, Coach Goldsmith and the rest of the coaching staff on a terrific year, way to close the deal.

So many storylines for the Rebels:

Big comeback for the second straight week.

Rees is contained (if you call 190 yards rushing contained) and plays the last drive on a bad leg in pain.

Goldsmith transfers 3 years ago to Boyle and now is a State Champion QB.

French gets his elusive first state title.

Rebels win one without Chuck Smith at the helm.

Barsotti has no made FG's this year but kicks 2 last week to put them in the finals and the clincher with :04 left to tie it and cap the comeback to force OT.

Congrats to the Rebels! :thumb:

What call would that be? The official play clock is kept on the field in HS, not on the playclock, which most schools don't have anyway. The play clock on the field is just an indicator, not the final say.

Why did u ask what call when you knew what I was talking about. Sorry, I was just going off what people at the game told me and they were Boyle fans.

Wow...

Lost the audio at the 5 min. mark, but having figured it was over, didn't try to get it back.

Sounds like I missed a few things...

Unbelievable that Lone Oak went away from their offense in the 4th qtr. Still thought the missed 2 pt. conversion and subsequent stop by the Flash's D was gonna save their bacon. But...you give a good team (and in the Finals, they are ALL good teams) a chance and you never know what will happen.

This is the most bitter kind of loss for Lone Oak. They'll be talking about this game in that community for many, MANY years. As a Prestonsburg fan, I can relate (from '93) - hate it for you guys.

Not to dredge up old memories and just out of curiosity, how does it relate to '93? Beechwood?

Is that the game where the kid threw the ball up in the air?

Didn't Mayfield beat Prestonburg in '93?

Is that the game where the kid threw the ball up in the air?

I believe you're remembering the Beechwood/Murray High game in '94. The Beechwood QB ran to the end zone to give Murray a safety, but not yet enough to win. He threw the ball in the air without taking a knee, Murray High grabbed it for the supposedly winning score, but the officials still ruled it a safety. Murray High had a trophy in their case which said "The REAL State Champions" for a long time. I don't know if it's still there or not.

OneI is referring to their heartbreaking loss to Mayfield in the AA State Final. This was the week after they stopped Danvilles 42 game winning streak by one in OT if I recall.

Last game ever coaching for Goldsmith and his son scores the last play ever in double OT to win State as a Sr! STORYBOOK! Pretty sure Boone had 5 TD's. 3 passing and 2 rushing! Not to shabby in your last game ever. Lawrence Co will always love you 2 and a lot of irony in 1st TD being on belly read which was a Chuke Williams special. Chuke died yesterday of cancer.

Loan Oak played lights out! Special teams was huge both sides. Congrats to Boyle and Coach French a true class act! Thank you to both teams for such an entertaining game!

Play clock did not run out btw. I was watching it close. Clutch kick especially with no timeouts!

Both teams played unbelievable. Lone Oak dominated in the air; Boyle on the ground. It was a special treat to see two teams battle toe to toe until only one stood on top.

Way to go Rebels. 15 - 0 STATE CHAMPS!!!:dancingpa

Congrats to Larry French and all the Boyle Coaches.

Seniors, you made this a special year. :ylsuper:

Rees MacShara (Mr. Football), you had an incredible year. You deserve the 4A player of the year and all the other accolades coming your way. Don't forget to share those accolades with the Big Nasties up front opening up the line.

Larry French catches his prize fish.

 Yeah, he can no longer tell about the "one that got away."

More than anything, I wanted him to win this one.

Congratulations to Boyle! They have a great program and they are a class act.

The one thing I want to say for my boys at LO is that the championship game was played TODAY! Not last week between Bell and Boyle like some who post here and elsewhere would have you believe, but TODAY! Proud of you Purple Flash. Congrats Rebels!
