Personally, I don't have a problem. It's what needs to be done to end this. I like the timetable. I happen to agree with him that unless we set a time table, there will be no clear expectations of the Afghans to take control of their own country. I like that while many decry the time he took to make his decision, I think that there is a plan. Rather than send troops in with no plan, no limits, there seems to be a strategy and a plan. THAT's important to me.

You like impossible then. Can't be done in the time frame he's calling for IMO. Even those on the left are saying that.

On a side note to last night's announcement, does anyone else find our President kind of boring? For someone to be as engaging and charismatic, he has become kind of dull in these type addresses.

I need some more conviction and commanding type tone. That was more dissertation mode last night and of late. When panning through the crowd, there were a couple of people dosing off during his speech.

The German paper Der Spiegel said "Never has a speech by President Obama felt as false as his Tuesday address....." Someone else beside BGPer's felt the negativity of the speech.

He comes off as a college professor lecturing to freshman. It is as if he feels the need to 'teach' in every speach.

MSNBC was showing some footage that Obama used very similar rhetoric that George W used when announcing the war in Iraq.

And as to the date they will start to pull out, I agree with it. Every goal has to have a timeline. There has to be an end. We cannot be there forever and they have to know that we are firm in this. They have to get their forces/governement/citizenry together and get serious about doing so now.

When it comes to war, I believe the goal should be to crush the enemy, the "end". Why can't our President get enthused about soundly defeating our enemy in an overwhelming way and then bringing our soldiers home? The date we pull out should be the date business has been taken care of and not a moment sooner. IMO if that's not how our President feels, bring them home now and we'll wait for the next attack to come on our soil. That's just me though.

How do you fund an endless war? How do you garner support from your allies for an endless war? As he said, it's not our goal to occupy Afghanistan. As well, the war on terror is not solely in Afghanistan. Getting Afghanistan to the point that they have a stable government, and are able to use their own military to keep terrorists at bay is much more effective, and means the US and it's allies will have the manpower and resources to continue fighting terror in other parts of the world if our support is needed.

Good for Obama. I'm glad he's giving his General the support he's asking for. Hopefully some other nations send some too and the 40,000 requested will all be giving support.

The war on terror will never end. Al Qaeda and the Taliban attacked us! They are in Afghanistan & Iraq plotting attacks on us as we type and I have ZERO confidence in either country ever being able to control them. If we know where they are (no matter where) we should be pummeling them. Again, that's just me.
