I don't think it was that bad...had he been in position, and tried to fight against said hold, it certainly would've been called....otherwise he was really going with the glow of the play.

The reason he didnt have the ball at the end of the 4 quarter was because the kid was gasped. He had to get a break.

 

That's easy to say when your drinkin pop and eatin popcorn from the sidelines.

 

Hardesty sure wasn't gassed; and he had been "ridden" all night, too.

I'm sick and tired of seeing Cobb in the "wildcat" with Locke coming FULL SPEED on the jet sweep and him never getting the ball! Its no wonder UT stopped Cobb on the read all night, they knew he wasnt going to hand it off. Joker, can you please hand the ball off to a guy with 4.2 speed, who is at full speed by the time he gets to Cobb in the jet sweep!? Please?

 

 

I said that 10 times watching this game, I told the ones around me that if Cobb would hand it off, Locke would get the corner and be gone...But yet i had to suffer through this loss wondering why one of the fastest players in the SEC couldn't get the ball on a sweep..

I said 3 years ago that Micah should be a DE and I think last night he proved that if he wants to play in the NFL it will not be at LB. He simpy doesn't have the wheels required to cover NFL TEs.

 

I stand behind an earlier thread I started asking if Coach Brooks has taken us as far as he and his staff can. I think they have and he should be slapped on the back for it and put in the UK HOF. However, using the score of this game against THIS UT team as an example of us getting better is simply putting one's head in the sand. We're average this year and we got lucky catching down AU, UGA, and UT teams.

 

If we want to continue making reservations for Birmingham, Nashville, and Memphis we stay the course.

The team lost the game. 24 points should be enough to win ball games. Defense could not get off the field on third down. How many good returns were negated by blocking in the back penalties? How hard is it to say," if you can read his name, you are on the wrong side. Do not touch him". Why do they run the wildcat with only Cobb as the focus? In essence it is now 10 against 11. With Lockes speed why not make the handoff and keep the defense honest. I could go on and on. I was so sick of Rocky Top. I was glad for most of the game, the sound operator played music so loud you could not hear that dang song. BUT we did beat Louisville, we beat Georgia AT Georgia and we beat Auburn AT Auburn. I was hoping for a trifecta....

You could certainly argue they have overachieved. However, the bigger question is this. Do you think UT, UGA, and Auburn are going to stay where they are now? Do you think Miss St is going to get better?

 

I think all 4 are going to get better and do it quickly. Where does that leave UK? Above Vandy? Fighting for 6 wins?

I think Kentucky can become on the positive side of the SEC. Will they ever become a Florida/LSU/Alabama? Probably not. However, there are coaches that can take them to the next level. Brooks can develop talent and brings in quality kids, but now we need someone to take us to the next level.

 

There are coaches who have taken bottom dwellers and made really good teams out of them. It's possible. Like Jim said, stick Brooks in the HOF and move on.

I think UK is going to be better next season, if the O-Line comes through. I was disappointed in the defense this season, but I think it can be better or at least more consistent next season.

 

The offense should be light-years ahead of where it was this season. UK won 7 games, 5 of them with a true frosh at QB who has alot of learning to do. That is impressive. Cobb is back, and he is the only skill guy on the roster that is a front-line SEC starter right now IMO. Locke could get back there, but to me, he doesn't seem like the same guy he was. King will be much better next season, and I expect Matthews to settle in a little better in year two ala Steve Johnson.

 

I saw this as a builiding year, and UK overachieved. UK could have won 10 regular season games, but 7 is still amazing considering everything that happened this year. People were expecting 4-5 wins, so 7 is great. This was not Brooks best team to me, but it may have been his best coaching job. The two games people complain about UT and SC, UK should not have even had a chance in. Cobb got hot and they caught a few breaks. Sure it's heart breaking to lose like that but in all honesty IMO, UK got outplayed by UT and SC.

When has that happened in the SEC in recent years? LSU and UGA got brought back to prominence, but they have better tradition and recruting bases than UK IMO. Spurrier turned UF in to a power, but they have always had alot of talent. UK does not and never will. Cobb is elite, Lindley is elite when healthy. Outside of that it's pretty much mediocre to pretty good for the rest of the players IMO.

I think you're underestimating where Kentucky is right now, as a program and what they're capable of. Five years ago, I would have been right there with you. But Brooks saved us after probation and has brought us back to respectability. With the right coach, things could improve even more.

 

Look at Johnson and what he is doing at Georgia Tech. Cutcliffe is making Duke (yes, Duke) better. Davis is making North Carolina better. Kentucky is in a better conference with better support. With Kentucky's fanbase that is pretty much there through thick and thin (most of them anyway), Kentucky could be a very good program.

Newton was dead on in his passing in the 1st half... came out cold the second half and never recovered. I am still shaking my head on why they did not put in the boy from Henderson Kentucky,senior WILL FIDLER, to shake up the offense. It worked for the Auburn game...

 

I will always stand by Coach Brooks as he has proven himself .... but Joker is not in my deck of cards. Let's get coach Kelley from UC before Notre Dame!

How many McClusters are on UK's roster? Ole Miss obviously had a lot of talent, O just couldn't get it out of them. Jevan Snead has played bad this year but he is ahead of what UK has IMO.

 

Coaching is a huge part of it but talent and depth are equally important if you want to be a contender in the SEC. UK does not have the depth IMO to do that, and I don't see how they will be able to get it.

UK's depth has improved a great deal in the Brooks era.
