OK, didn't read the article initially. There is the cost of rental to EKU, which the city pays, and those costs have gone up in recent years. Seems to me the city needs to be beating the bushes to drum up more local sponsors, which should be more than willing to pony up, given the potential lost revenue from tourney attendees.

That's my point exactly, I'd be interested if there are costs that we just don't realize. Seems to me that cutting this out would only make things worse for the city of Richmond. The hotels are packed, eateries loaded with folks, how can this be a bad proposition for the city? So, I am with Jim, I'm not following how ending the relationship makes things any better for the city.

I agree JS, seems like the only workable solution would be sponsorship since they don't want to raise the price of admission.

The city is in financial trouble now. The local taxes aren't enough to prevent the budget short fall we have so I don't see how this is the case.

I think the Kentucky Horse Park would be a great place for the small school tourney. Not seeing how NKU would be a great host, too extreme in one direction and there is only two hotels directly around the campus in Highland Heights. This situation would cause most teams to either bus in from Florence or set up shop on the river banks in Covington.

You got to be kidding me! There are more quality hotel rooms within 7 miles of BOKC than in all of Richmond combined. Think Newport/Covington and dare I say Downtown Cincinnati!

 

WOW a whole 6.5 miles away via a Interstate Hwy to Newport and the Comfort Inn and a Holiday Inn Express.

 

A whole 6.3 miles to the Covington Riverfront and the many, many Hotels and Hotels room there!

 

Wow and who would have thought that the long 12 mile drive via Interstate Hwys from NKU to the Mineola Pike exit on 275 near the airport would kill someone.

 

You have got to come up with a better complaint than Hotel space not being available in NKy.

 

BTW, I would bet you any amount of money you have that there are more types of restaurants, museums, entrainment complexes to attend again within 6/7 miles of NKU than in the entire city of Richmond!

I was there that year. Harlan lost to Owsley County in the quarterfinals. It was great at Memorial Coliseum.

 

Northern is too far away as far as I'm concerned.
