I think the Kentucky Horse Park would be a great place for the small school tourney. Not seeing how NKU would be a great host, too extreme in one direction and there is only two hotels directly around the campus in Highland Heights. This situation would cause most teams to either bus in from Florence or set up shop on the river banks in Covington.

The Horse Park arena has 6,300 chairback seats which is a perfect size for the All "A" in my opinion. As far as NKU and the hotel issue that point was in the immediate area surrounding the campus there is only the two hotels, now if you want to include all of northern Kentucky yeah you have plenty of rooms but that area is a foreign land to most Kentuckians so having to string people out over the region and possibly into another state is not a good ideal! Why would anybody want teams staying playing in a Kentucky tourney staying in Ohio and the revenue going across the river?

What about the Arena in Corbin?

You could make a case for a Corbin or Pikeville but like NKU they are too extreme in one direction to host the tournament.

There are more than enough hotel rooms to where staying in Ohio is not necessary. And if NoKy is a "foreign land" to most Kentuckians as you suggest, I would recommend those folks come out of their caves once in a while. Most every hotel/motel in NoKy is located just off the interstates, making for easy and quick access.

They'll stay in Florence if they want to be further away. There are more than enough hotel rooms available less than 10 minutes from NKU. You're acting as though the same number of people attend the All A as do attend the Sweet 16.

Direct shot to Bellevue you are adding what two more to the mix: unless you're advocating that flea bag directly across from the Reds field. I go to the All A every year. I know how many teams are in it, thank you very much. I also know that the fan turnout for the whole tournament is at best 1/5 that what attends the Sweet 16. Eight teams are gone after day one, another eight after day two. Plus, at least four of those 32 teams will be from the NoKy area, and those teams and fans will be sleeping in their own beds.

 

Plenty of hotels on the river (a 10-minute drive most days, perhaps 15 in bad traffic), and there are also hotels off the Ky 17 exit, which is only 10 minutes away as well. No need to go to Florence unless someone wants to be that far away.

There are a few hotels in Wilder, which is 2 exits away on I-275.

 

Florence is 10 - 12 miles away from Bank of Kentucky Center. If, for some reason, you want to stay there, you'd be passing probably 20 - 30 places to stay.

 

In order to travel 30 - 40 miles round trip, as you stated, you'd have to stay at the hotels near Richwood, off of I-75. If that's the case (and trust me, it wouldn't be), then it's only a 20 minute drive anyway. But, there's no reason why teams couldn't stay much, much closer.

The City of Richmond doesn't get a cut of the gate, as far as I know — the article is kind of vague on that. Touchstone Energy is the main sponsor of the tournament, but their money goes toward scholarships paid out by the All A organizers.

 

A ploy for more sponsorship $$$$ makes sense on their part, and if the All A means as much to the city's businesses as is alleged in the article, that's where you'll see that money come from. Another option for the city is to increase their restaurant and hotel tax, which I'm sure would have the local businesses screaming bloody murder. But if the city's financial straits are that dire, it's either that or the tourney leaves if no additional sponsorship money materializes.
