Notice the focus on B's. Bell and Boyle. Maybe we can keep the hardware rotating between us for next few years.

 

Bell loses some talented seniors but only 6 of them. I think we have a shot to be in the hunt again next year.

 

SARR from what I seen last week, I have no doubt that you all will. There was some big time hits friday night on both sides of the ball.

A question I have is what was wrong with the PA system? I never heard an announcer all game. And there were big speakers on top of the press box.

 

As for the calls, I did not think it was pass interference on Rains from Bell Co. I thought the defender was into him pretty good. It was a great catch. The late hit by Madon had to be a late hit because he definitly did not lead with his helmet. He went up and tried to make a big play and it was close. It ended up being a really big play in the game. I also thought on the halfback pass with Cory Davenport throwing to his brother Cody there was interference on that play. Thats my opinion and a tough call to make I guess. There is no excuses. One great team won and another great team fell a little short.

They where working, guess with all the noise it was hard to hear. To be honest I hardly remember hearing anything. After watching the highlights on TV, did I realize that their was fireworks after the game. I've been around high school football many many years. Only a hand full of games can come close to the one I watched last week. 04 Highlands (both), 01 Hopkinsville, 03 Paducah Tilghman, all the Danville wins, 82 Somerset, and now 09 Bell.

Good news/Bad news post. First the bad news.

I have never witnessed 2 individual trolls act in a fashion toward young men as i witnessed tonight. Two rather large women from Boyle County were acting in a way that i felt ashamed of if they had been Bell County fans. 1 troll pointing her rather large fingers into the face of a young man that had just played the game of his life and saying very insulting things too him. The other large troll yelling toward our players disgusting things that will be left out of these comments. Now i know Bell has their fair share of obnoxious fans and I would not condone these actions toward any young man that has just played this type of game after giving it his all to try to win. Shame on these 2 people and hopefully they will be shown how their actions looked too all who witnessed it. The sad part was these were "adult" women. Shame on you.

Now the good news. My hats off to the Boyle County fans and players. I talked to a few of you after the game and the players for Boyle, #74,#2 and #5. These are very classy players you have and great young men. You guys played your hearts out for both teams and thank you from a fan that witnessed such a great game.

Bell County, my hats off too you. Great game tonight. Now lets remember this next year when it comes around again. Let em bring the "sawmill" to Log Mountain, but i guarantee you the blades won't be sharp enough to do anything.

 

I am late getting in this discussion, but I want to be sure I (and the rest of the BGP members) understand this correctly...

 

I have talked to a few people that were there and from what I understand these two were Boyle Co. Fans standing over Bell County players?

 

If this is correct, in my opinion they should be lifetime banned from HS sports.

I was under the assumption that the late hit flag was for the receiver being defenseless when the hit was delivered because he was still in the air when he got hit even though the pass was already clearly incomplete and passed the receiver. Either way, he was hit late.

 

The pass interference on Rees could have gone either way or no call, but it was a heck of a play because you don't usually see a receiver stiff arm the defender before the ball gets there and still make the catch. The correct call would have been offsetting penalties, IMO.

 

In all there were 4 penalties between both teams(3 on Boyle, 1 on Bell) and the officials didn't throw a flag when Hilton headbutted Lamar. The refs let both teams play and they had absolutely no effect on the outcome of the game which is all we can ask for, right?

Actually I was talking to a member of Boyle Co's staff who coaches another sport and we were both a little confused by the pass interference call because it looked like the receiver went up for the ball and the defender hit him and it was definately not after the play and to us didn't look like it was viscious. I think what made it a little more unusual was the line judge threw the flag from 20+ yards away and there was no flag from the official 8 yards from the play. I am not saying it was a wright or wrong call and no one can say what the outcome of the game would have been with if the call would not have been made (same with the other pass interference call but I was clear across the field and didn't see that one to make a judgement) because it was made. I do know that one of the assistant coaches was in that refs ear hard up until that call was made. As a coach I do the samething as do all coaches and the only thing that frustrates me a little with this call is the line judge should have been watching the line for holding and when the ball was thrown he should have been watching the line for extra activity (such as head-butting) he had no business looking at the play if he wanted to watch the game he should have bought a ticket. That was the coach in me with that opinion. Personally it was definately the best game I have seen all year I think they were both evenly matched and Boyle was the best on that night. Rees MacShara(thanks PP92) is a beast and IMO was the difference in the game he took over in the second half but especiaslly on the last drive. Calls are a part of the game and refs are always 50% right and 50% wrong but human error is what makes the difference in these types of games; such as fumbles, iterceptions, penalties and even questionable call from the officials. That is what makes high school football great. Look at this way, officials and the calls they make always give you a reason to say we could have won IF, but we will get them next year. From my reliable source who is a Line Judge, I was informed that if it is a passing play the LJ will slowly make his way down field given it is a pass of ten yards or more. If the pass is a quick hitter the he'll stay home. Now depending on strength of formation and side of the field will also decide what the LJ or HL will do on a given pass play. So to say the Side Judge should be looking for cheap stuff isn't totally true. I was not there nor have I seen any film so this is based on posts.

It was no phantom call, it was a pass play, the ball was over thrown to the Boyle receiver, and # 10 after the play was over, decided to deliver a hit any way, I had my eyes right on the play. Also one of the Bell Co. linebackers a series or two earlier, after the whistle had blown head butted a Boyle player in the face mask, it was evident it was intentional and after the whistle. In my opinion Bell Co. was trying to intimidate Boyle Co. from the beginning and it worked for about the first half. Then Boyle got tough too and the rest is history.:thumb:

OK, I can live with that explanation. I am not an official and will be the first person to say that I don't know all the in's and out's of the officials responsibilities and duties. With that being said, I may have spoken out of line and for that I apologize. I guess it just frustrates me as a coach when one ref so far away (who is not the primary for that area) throws a flag for a play that happened right in front of another ref who should be the one making the call. Again, I don't know what the refs conversation was on the field but if the primary ref (the on right on top of the play) says it was clean then the other ref should go along with him and wave off the flag. Again, I am not sure of the conversation and the primary ref may have said something like I don't know I wasn't looking at it; or something to that affect. So again, I was going by my judgement as a fan and a coach and maybe spoke out-of-line. Either way the call was made and like I said there is no way of telling if it would have changed anything and in my opinion it probably wouldn't have. Both of these teams have great programs year in and year out and my guess is we will have a similar discussion next year! Congats to Bell on another great season and good luck to Boyle next week!

Officiating is about observation. Sometimes observation of a game is determined by the angles. That's why umpires in baseball/softball don't stay still and why one might have a better view than the one "right on top of the play". It's obvious as a fan when we see the different camera angles we're given on MNF. Just a different view from far or close up changes what we knew was a "catch" into incomplete because of the angles. That's why four different people can view a car wreck from different places and come up with different conclusions about "what happened." :thumb:

Sounds like Karma for Bell Co....

The week before the officials on their sideline let the LC players get cussed from people off the field on that side the whole game (we have our idiots too and so does every school). That same official stopped a LC drive early in the game around the 20 yd line by backing them up on a holding call. Late in the game he peeked into the huddle for about 8 seconds and decided to eject a LC player. The momentum changer for the game without a doubt was 10 seconds left in the half. The same official threw a phantom flag on #1. He said #1 pushed him in the chest with 2 hands.

It would have been 4th down 7-0 game about 10 seconds before the half. Instead the phantom flag led to an ejection and gave Bell the ball on the goaline. It was the momentum changer of the game. At the end of the day Bell is better than LC and Boyle is better than Bell. All 3 have had great seasons. I look for all 3 to be really good again next year too. Congrats to the Bell Sr's on a great run. You guys have represented well. Best of luck to Boyle Co. I hope you guys win it all. It still amazes me the amount of talent that comes out of county schools like Bell and Boyle. I guess the speed amazes me more than anything! Both are really well coached too!

 

 

When talking about karma Lawrence Co. needs to look at themselves in the mirror. Or on youtube. The celebration video against Knox Central was poor sportsmanship IMO. Also, the way a couple Lawrence Co. players acted during the Bell game was disturbing too. Bell Co. has always been a class act under Coach Hilton, just like Boyle Co. is. And that will not change with the current coaches.

Sorry Congrats. We lost a former player and a great Bell County fan Sat morning. He was at the game on Friday cheering on the team just has been a bad weekend. Sorry but the game doesn't mean as much as we thought. Congrats and good luck this week.
