November 9, 200916 yr What makes you think Joker will leave UK when he will be the head coach in a year or so? Not sure if Brooks is ready to leave. May get tired of waiting. Plus it is something he can call his own. He grew up in the area.

Also, I wouldn't be suprised if Randy Sanders got a phone call from WKU. Coach Sanders would be a good choice. He has a good football mind and can recruit and teach kids how to play the game. This would be a good job for someone wanting to be a head coach. Are there any big name assistants that would be interested?

Elson is a good guy, but it didn't work out for him at WKU. Hard to argue with the decision given that they really haven't shown much progress. I was surprised to learn recently that there isn't 1 WR on their entire roster over 6'1". IMHO, you need at least 1 or 2 guys 6'3" or better to gain a height advantage over smaller CBs.
November 9, 200916 yr I know one of the members of WKU's Athletic Board and he said there were people higher up than Selig who wanted Elson gone. He said there was some differences of opinion and that there would be a power struggle over this. I guess the higher ups won.

November 9, 200916 yr Chuck Smith would be #1 if I were Western. Due to his lengthy college resume? I like Chuck, but would not have him #1 on the Western Kentucky search list. Due to the fact that David Elson was a former assistant and did not measure up to at least one influencial persons expectations, I see Western Kentucky going after a coach with previous head coaching experience. FYI......wasn't Romeo Crennel honored at WKU and spent this past weekend in Bowling Green? Coincidence?

Monroe Co. has a wide out over 6'1" named Neil Wilson only 60 miles or so up the road from BG but Elson has shown he rather have someone from out in the wild blue yonder than some good local talent.

That seems to be a problem for many college coaches. For whatever the reason, many good kids are overlooked when they are homegrown. Cobb wasn't recruited as hard by UT as UK. Turned out pretty well for the Cats, but it is funny that often, college coaches overlook talent right in their own backyard. We have seen it happen over and over again. UK didn't recruit Shawn Alexander that hard, but he ended up being a stud for Bama. UT wouldn't recruit Chad Pennington, then Marshall steals him at a camp and he ends up being a 1st round pick in the NFL draft. It happens all over, and I understand that the recruiting game is a gamble. You never truly know how a kid will respond to the increase speed of the college game. But I would like to see more local kids get looked at.

Oftentimes I've seen programs criticized for recruiting too much homegrown talent in an area such as Kentucky where there is not often an abundance of D1 talent. Specifically as it pertains to WKU, they have taken heavy criticism in this area, but as you can see, they also don't go after some other talent like Wilson out of Monroe.

He was a strong advocator for that and since then, I have not cared for him. I am shocked at the firing actually, I mean I figured with the transition they were sticking with the person who has gotten them through the fire. He has had to play some tough D1 teams for blood money in years past. I still hate them though. LOL
