What would you like to see take the place of the BCS?

Featured Replies

Me and a few guys were talking about this at work. Obviously everyone said some type of playoff system. There were alot of pretty good ideas with alot of different pros and cons. What would everyone else like to see done?

I would like to see the plus one. That would be the most fair way IMO, if they they allowed one of the four places to be given to a non-BCS conference team provided they finished in the top 5 of the BCS.

12 team playoff top 4 teams get a first round bye BCS conference champion automatic bid guarantee 2 spots for non BCS league teams, the rest are at large.

It's baby steps, but I agree with you. Certainly the NCAA isn't going to roll out a 16-team playoff to "try on for size." But you could see something similar to your proposal, which would allow for the bowls to continue operating (contrary to what most believe).

Would you use a selection committee or maintain the current BCS standings and pick from those rankings?

I would like to see a 16 team playoff. Then I would like to see an additional 16 team playoff for teams 17 to 32 (NIT like). I would use the current computer system and take the top 32 teams.

Interesting idea.

Where would you play the games? All on campus opening rounds and then feed to bowls? NCAA tournament in bowl settings, while NIT is on campus before the finals in a bowl game? Just curious.

We need some kind of a playoff, anything besides what we have now.

I believe that you knock out 2 games off of the schedule and make it a 10 week schedule. You play your conference championship games Week 12, and then a 16 team playoff. As the team's lose they qualify for certain bowl games that are designated for their conference. If DIII can get it done w/ 32, DI can do it w/ 16.

Like the idea of 16 team playoff. Can use the Major Bowls for playoff games and rotate the Championship Game between the Major Bowls. Right now unless your team is playing in a bowl game not a lot of interest in the games execpt Championship Game. But by using bowls as playoff games there would be more interset in other bowl games.

:thumb: Anything less that 12 almost guarantees you're leaving out deserving teams.

You'd almost have to make it mandatory for all BCS conferences to have a championship game, regardless of number of teams. You can't give the Big11 two bids just because their conference didn't see fit to have them play each other.

I would use the BCS to pick the teams.

8 team playoffs. The 6 conference champions from the major conferences. Then have two at larges. If a non major conference team is like within the top 6 in the polls then they are guarnteed one of the at larges.

Have the first week of the playoffs the week after the season ended, and have the games top 4 teams home fields. Then with the final 4 teams put them into two seperate BCS games like the Orange or Sugar, etc. Then the Championship game the week after. All the other teams who didn't make the playoffs still can have all their bowl games, and could still possibly make one of the other BCS bowl games that is not hosting one of the two semi final games. This way we still have all of the traditional bowls, which bring in lots of money, but you also finally are crowning more of a true National Champion than we do now.
