Couldn't agree with you more... IMO, this is all about individual recognition in a team oriented sport. If we were talikng about bowling or tennis, then have at it. To be considered Mr Football should be enough recognition to these fine student athletes.

 

At the end of the day, we will have a winner and we will have many more disappointed fans!

Duggins played all three years at LB didn't he?

 

While never flashy at LB, I thought he was solid. :thumb:

 

He did play some Hatz, but only played as needed. Which in 2001 he was not needed to much. When he did play he was a very tuff linebacker that would knock the fire out of you. He was not your normal quarterback on defense.

I agree, the big trophy for three in a row will be the best accomplishment for the Falcons.

 

The individual awards are nice as they recognize some great young men that do outstanding jobs, but the best award of all is the grand prize given at Bowling Green.

Miles Simpson

Although I believe Rees is a great player, how do you support this. I know and understand he has had a great year (and career) but what has he done. As I said in the previous post, IN MY MIND, Mr Football is for the best football player in the state, not just the best player at a certain position. What else has he done well at. All I ever hear about him is his rushing, that is it. The school doesn't provide stats so it is kind of hard to see anything about him when we do not get to see him play.

 

I was not implying that Rees was a one dimensional player or trying to discredit him at all. I am sure that most of these guys are not one dimensional, I am just trying to say that sharing the numbers for the whole player, not just rushing or passing. The original post just said McShara, nothing else to go with it to support it. I just like to see supporting evidence when someone puts a name up there.

11 receptions, 260 yards, 3 tds, 23.64 yards/reception

 

Probably 10 tackles(in my estimation that I've seen....could be more...could be less), 2 ints, 1 int return for a td

 

That gives him 2,228 total yards, 31 total tds going into the last game.

 

Regardless of where you think he is as a football player......those are Mr. football numbers......going into the last game.

2. Tevin McCaden - RB (6A-Bryan Station, 7-2)

3. Austin Collinsworth - RB (5A-Highlands, 9-0)

4. Antonio Andrews - QB (2A-Fort Campbell, 9-0)

5. Rees MacShara - RB (4A-Boyle County, 9-0)

6. Dominique Hayden - RB (1A-Lex. Christian, 8-1)

 

That's a great list! MacShara is the best I've seen. Shane Pack is the best fullback I've seen with 4 more TD's last week. Highlands LBer is the best defensive player I've seen but forgot his name.

Hello I am new to this site but not covering football, how is Mr. Football determined? I have followed kentucky football for the last four years, I am a army veterans and football coach in the state of Illinois, I really want to no how Mr. Football is determined, because Mr. Troy Turner has put up very good number over the last four years as of today he has over 4,800 yards and 68 TD, and he has one game left before the play offs begin and I see a long run in to the play offs and a State Chanpionship and his name is not talked about at all about Mr. Football or anything?

I think the top 3 kids on that list have the better shot because they play in the large divisions. Simpson and McCaden have played all there games against 6A competition in two tough regions and Collinsworth is the best player on arguably the best team in the state. I love what Andrews and McShara are doing for their teams and they both have great stats and either would be a deserving recipient but I have to think that they will ultimately get left out because they play for smaller schools. There needs to be a Mr. Football for each class so these kids can get the honor they deserve.

 

McCaden through 9 games - 237 carries, 2007 yards, 26 TD's - 1st back in school history to break 2000 before the playoffs and Bryan Station has had some great ones.

I am really becoming an Andrews fan, no not Erin, but Antonio. If this is a Mr. Football award, and not a Mr Running Back award, I am beginning to think Andrews is the man. Passing, rushing, kicking, returning, and he plays defense too. He seems to be a true Mr. Football.

Has he played a whole game all year? He is doing this in 1/2 the game if I understand some people that has seen games.
