October 28, 200916 yr While it's certainly not gourmet, many of us (I'm one) probably grew up on the stuff. Or maybe it was a staple (along with Ramen noodles and mac & cheese) while on a college budget. These were/are my favorites: Chili Beef (my childhood favorite) Bean with Bacon New Elgland Clam Chowder Split Pea with Ham And I can hardly get by in the kitchen without the "cream triumvirate" - mushroom, chicken and celery.

October 28, 200916 yr Author :thumb: With a grilled cheese sandwich. With some parmesan cheese and italian seasoning in the soup.:thumb: And according to mcmama, pickles on the sandwich.
October 28, 200916 yr Definitely a big fan of Tomato, especially when on a budget. Love the New England Clam Chowder as well.
October 28, 200916 yr Not a big fan of canned soup. But if you want a fantastic Clam Chowder recipe that uses some Cambells soups here you go. I can each Campbell's New England clam chowder, potato, cream of celery, 1 stick of butter, 8 ounces of half and half (regular milk works too). Add a little pepper and some extra clams if you desire. Real easy and real tasty. Just put in a pan and let it heat up slowly.
October 28, 200916 yr All time favorite is Chicken Noodle. I always have cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, cream of musroom with roasted garlic, cream of celery and cream of shrimp on hand though. Add a can of instant rice to any of the above and you have what I call poor-man's risotto.
October 28, 200916 yr I used to love Turkey Noodle. I am not sure if they still even make it though. Other than that I am a big Chicken Noodle and Vegetable Beef fan.
October 28, 200916 yr Author Here's what prompted the thread. I picked up some cookbooks in an auction box lot not long ago; one of them was "Cooking With Soup" published in 1968; all 600+ recipes use Campbell's soup. The first page lists all the varieties available at the time.
October 28, 200916 yr New Elgland Clam Chowder Me too, but I like the New England variety much better. Tomato !!!!!! :thumb: With a grilled cheese sandwich. That hits the spot too! Later.
October 28, 200916 yr Good ol' tomato, chicken noodle or bean with bacon. From the newer chunky soups.....New England clam chowder. I just noticed this thread and think I am going to warm me up some "Chowda" right now. hmmm hmmm good.
