October 26, 200916 yr He is 6-2 in bowl games... 4 SEC East titles and 2 SEC titles. I like him a lot. Mark Richt is a good coach, but IMO he's a bottom half of the conference coach. I'd take these coaches over him: -Saban -Meyer -Kiffin and company. -Petrino -Les Miles -Rich Brooks And I'd take them in a heartbeat. I'd possibly take this Steve Spurrier and Nutt over him as well. Outside of UF, Bama, and LSU he has more talent than any other team, but you couldn't tell it. They win year in and year out, but there always seems to be a few losses.
October 26, 200916 yr HT721, I agree with you on Mark Richt. I think that he is a good coach, but not a great one. He isn't the man to take UGA to the next level, or to take over at FSU as a few want. The joke in the SEC is that Georgia gets less out of more than anyone else. And it's true. UGA should have been a player in the title race last year, but Bama exposed them and then UF humiliated them. I disagree about Petrino though. He's a good coach. His offense is really young, or atleast I think it is, and they are going to continue to get better. I don't think they unseat Bama in the SEC West next year, but I think they could be a major player in the SEC race. I think that once Mallet gets more games under his belt in Petrino's system they are really going to impress people. The SEC isn't as great this year as it usually is, but in the future it's going to be insane. Bama and UF have, IMO, the two best coaches in America right now. Tennessee has one of the best staffs, and Kiffin is one of the best young coaches in the game. LSU should be back to normal next year, Mississippi State is going to continue to improve. Houston Nutt is going to always have undervalued talent at his disposal. I think Auburn is going to continue to get better if they keep Malzahn around. UK is becoming a consistent team, and should continue to improve. If UGA can find a QB they will be back. The SEC is going to be straight loaded for the future. I agree Petrino can turn Arkansas around, I just like getting my shots at him, if you had to deal with the Arkansas fans we deal with on my Ole Miss board on a daily basis you would understand. I have no faith in Chizick at Auburn, he may prove me wrong but if he can't turn the second half of the season around I think SEC coaches will use a see I told you so approach about Chizick with recruits and that will seriously undermine any chance he has at success, it takes good players and fast players if you are going to make the spread work in the SEC. Kiffin has a great staff, but so much of that great staff is his dad, and how many years does Monte have left? As far as Mullen goes, he could easily be a winner as a head coach, pains me to say it but its true. But I do honestly believe if he has any kind of success at MSU he will be gone from there within 5 years. The facilities at MSU are terrible and may be 3rd just in the state of Mississippi, it's really close with Southern Miss as far as facilities go. So I just don't see him being there long term.

No doubt. I just hate seeing people act like Petrino isn't a good coach. I think he may be a top 15 guy around the country. Chizick is probably garbage, but I think he has a good staff. I don't think they expected the early season success this year, I think this is a building year for them. If they can find a QB their offense will be very good. Mullen like you said is in a bad job. He will get a better job, but who really knows when or where. It's going to have to be a good job to justify leaving the SEC IMO. If he can be like Rich Brooks and keep MSU in bowl games he will be set there, so I don't know when he could leave. I don't know if he can become a big enough name to get a big job that isn't in the SEC, like an Oklahoma or Michigan. He's a Meyer clone, and is going to have success though.
October 26, 200916 yr 1) Bama 2) Florida 3) LSU 4) UT 5) Ole Miss 6) USC 7) Georgia 8) Arkansas 9) Miss State 10) UK 11) Auburn 12) Vanderbilt

If Chizick gets it together at Auburn, I could see any job being worth leaving for to get out of the SEC West. If Auburn gets rolling The SEC West will be the toughest division in college football every year. I mean other than Chizick right now is there any SEC West coach you would say you could count on Mullen competing with on a yearly basis? Nutt- has 3 west titles, Les Miles- NC winner, Petrino- don't like him but as we said great coach, Nick Saban-this doesn't even need a reason. I mean really if Auburn gets moving it would be easy to see State finishing 6th in the SEC west every other year if not 2 out of 3 years.

Like UK, I don't see them winning an SEC Title in the near future, but I think that Mullen may be able to make them competitive.

It isn't Richt's fault that the conference is LOADED with great coaches. Of the above listed... Meyer, Saban and Miles are the only ones that I would for sure take over Richt.

Many would agree with you. UGA has top 10 talent around the country though. Other coaches do more with less though. I think UGA underachieves for the amount of talent they have.
October 26, 200916 yr I wouldn't take Miles as a coach he scares me more than Richt. UK and Arkansas loss on the way to the title, Ole Miss @ home loss last year, Arkansas loss last year. He pulled one out against Auburn on throwing for a TD with a few seconds left instead of kicking a game winning field goal. I don't know I just don't trust Miles. He has as much or more talent than everyone in the SEC and isn't dominant by any stretch of the imagination.

UK will get their chance to prove they are better than MSU on Saturday night. The other schools consistently beat UK, so until UK turns the tables, I see no problem with his poll.

That is the two way street of college football though... how does that Top 10 talent get there in the first place?
