October 22, 200917 yr The high school coach of Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor says that his former player could be utilized more effectively by Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel. "They need Terrelle to run more," former Jeannette (Pa.) High School coach Ray Reitz said. "They've put the reins on him and they need to let him go free. When I watch Terrelle play right now, I see a robot." Reitz, now the coach at Latrobe High, said Pryor was recruited on the premise of a more diverse offense. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4582474
October 22, 200917 yr Author He also said that Pryor's style would have fit in better at Michigan... I believe he is right too. And for those who don't know Pryor severely considered Michigan as his high school choice. Because he wanted to be like Pat White and that type of offense. In part of the article it sounds like Ray Reitz is saying Ohio State lied to Pryor just to keep him from bieng a Wolverine. "There is no question that Rich Rodriguez's offense, for example, would be more apt to suit Terrelle's skills," Reitz said. "But Ohio State sold him on the idea that they would prepare him for the NFL and that they don't run 'zone-read' in the NFL. Jim Tressel is a great coach. But I can tell you there is more to Terrelle Pryor than what we've been seeing."
October 22, 200917 yr I think OSU believes that he still can become an Elite QB. Clearly Pryor would have been better served to go and play for UM or Oregon.
October 22, 200917 yr It is understandable what Ohio State sold to Terrelle Pryor to get him to orally commit. They told him to come to Ohio State and run the same offense that Troy Smith ran, and have an opportunity to play quarterback on Sundays. They told him, if you go to Michigan or Oregon, in those offenses you will probably not have a chance to develop as a quarterback who can play in the NFL. Obviously, it worked because he is in Columbus. The problem is that the young man has had just over a year now to learn something totally foreign to him and his natural abilities. Terrelle Pryor is not nor will he maybe ever be a pro-style, drop-back passer. Yes he is an amazing athlete and can throw the football a mile. Problem: He is and probably will be a run first, throw second style quarterback. He is not suited or comfortable throwing in the pocket, but he is being asked to do that.
October 22, 200917 yr Great idea coach he needs to run more in college. He was very successful running in the state of Pennslyvania against prep talent. Pryor said loss may be best thing to happen to him and team. said he was sarting to feel like a superstar and a lot of people around him were filling his head with stuff. said he is back down to earth now and feeling completely relaxed.
October 22, 200917 yr Wasn't the Pryor recruitment a two-horse race between Ohio State and Penn State, with Oregon a limited player, and Michigan coming in late with the hire of Rodriguez? Just trying to reset my memory.

October 22, 200917 yr He is where he wants to be. That didn't really answer my question. I'm far from a recruiting guru (heck, I barely follow recruiting). Just trying to remember how it played out, what schools were finalists, etc.

It is odd that he goes to OSU to not run zone read and it seems that now he errrr ...his coach thinks they should run it.

October 23, 200917 yr It's always someone else's fault. Pryor has underachieved so blame the coach. I think his coach is right.
October 23, 200917 yr I think his coach is right. I don't care if he is or not. Pryor made his choice and has to live with it. His former coach has now put him in a terribly awkward position.
