That makes no sense to me.

I think Newton played and passed the ball pretty good for his first game. HE throws a good looking ball. It takes time to get the timing down on those deep balls he overthrew. He did overthrow them which was good if you don't make the catch at least the defender won't either. With more reps and playing time I think he could be pretty good.

:thumb: That's exactly the caliber of QB he reminds me of, hopefully the college version of Culpepper. He's big, strong, gotta big arm, and can move. Definately the best comparison I've seen so far, imo.

 

I am not much for comparisons, but that seems to be the closest IMHO. I also think it is hard to say based on what limited action we have been able to see him in. I really believe there is a TON of upside in this kid and look forward to watching him progress the next 4 years!!

There is a reason he was a highly rated QB. His throws were a little high, but that is normal for a 1st time true freshman starter. I was impressed that he didn't get rattled. He is going to be a fine QB.

 

I remember many thinking that UK needed to look at J'lo as a lineman. Thank goodness they did not. Newton will be a fine QB at UK.

I don't see how Newton is in Stafford's league. Stafford, even as a frosh made all the NFL throws. Newton has a good arm, but he has a long way to go to become a passer like Stafford, even if you look at Stafford as a frosh.

He doesn't make them the same way as Stafford. Stafford's struggles come from his decision making, and he is very accurate.

 

Matt Stafford had an elite arm, Newton has a very good arm.

 

And we really haven't seen Newton make very many throws at all. From what we have seen, I don't think that we can definitely say that Newton can throw the 12-15 yard out on a rope or other big-time NFL throws. Stafford always had that. Newton has good tools, but Matt Stafford? :idunno:

Morgan Newton is not and will probably never be in Matthew Stafford's league passing the football.

 

A great passer may or may not have the ability to throw the ball a long way (Morgan Newton can), he may or may not be able to throw it hard (Morgan Newton can), but he throws an accurate spiral that is on target and easy to catch (Morgan Newton has not shown this ability).

 

Unfortunately, as of right now and it could certainly improve as he works to get better, but I would compare Morgan Newton throwing of the football to Terrell Pryor at Ohio State. Pryor can throw it long and hard as well, but do you guys think he is a accurate passer?
