How about Derrick Ramsey

Very similar, in my opinion.

I think the other freshman, who I won't even attempt to spell his name, will eventually be the QB at UK. I think he fits the pro style offense better.

In barely 3 quarters of play it's a bit early for me to form an opinion.
Same here. :idunno:
None of the above. He's still trying to find himself. Kind of reminds me of a young Culpepper a little bit. Really strong arm, good feet but not extremely elite quickness, not as fat though.

What he said.:thumb:

Okay, okay, fine after reviewing his game vs. Auburn, along with the countless number of highlight tape, I'd have to say that Newton:

Has the armstrength of a John Elway or Brett Farve

He is so cool in the pocket he's the next Tom Brady or Drew Brees

His vast knowledge of the offense is 2nd only to how much Peyton Manning knows about the Colts offense.

I guess all the predictions are crazy. So far he hasn't had a chance to prove that he belongs in the same sentence as anyone mentioned. I saw nothing that looked like a young Matt Stafford to me, if you guys did that is fine. IMO, it is way off, but it is still fine as it is your opinion.

I think the point that most of us are trying to make is that after 3 quarters in a run oriented game plan, it is hard for anyone to determine how good Newton will be. None of us know. I remember on here MANY posters saying that Woodson was never going to make after his redshirt frosh and soph seasons. Fact is that NONE of us knew what would happen with Woodson after MORE games than any of us have actually seen Newton play. I like the kid, believe that for a true freshman, he did okay.

Any comparisons to other QBs are not justified, good or bad, right now. We don't have enough information to make a truly educated judgement on either side. However, I do agree that given the quick eye test (which is all we have had), he does remind me of a young Culpepper without the baby fat! Good arm, good feet, good size. But he is still a true freshman and has a TON of games to develop his game into whatever it becomes.

Remember, we're just speculating on who he will remind us of in the future, for fun.

I agree to a certain extent.

Ryan Mossakowski is a pro-style, drop-back passing quarterback. He skill set is a very good fit for the UK offense. He is comfortable in the pocket and throws a very nice ball. He has good leadership abilities and is much more advanced in understanding the complicated system UK is running than is Morgan Newton. Also, he played Texas high school football so his competition in high school was as good as it gets. This very much helps in the transition to big time SEC football.

Ryan Mossakowski had shoulder surgery last November. The strength in his arm has been effected by his not being able to workout his upper body for much of 2009 due to the surgery. Due to this, he is unable to put the "pop" on his throws like he was able to do pre-surgery. He is definitely red-shirting in an effort to gain a year of eligibility and get in the weight room to develop the strength in his entire body to hope to get the strength back into his right arm.

Injury free, Ryan Mossakowski would be ahead of Morgan Newton on the depth chart in this type offense. It is very suited to his skill set.

It remains to be seen if he will be able to get back the throwing abilities he had pre-shoulder surgery.

A family member of mine spent some time talking with Mossakowski's father in San Diego within the past 10 months. His dad expects Ryan to compete for the starting job next year. Said his rehab came along nicely and he just has to get all his shoulder strength back, but that he was doing very well. This should be a fun competition to watch.

Spring practice 2010 is going to be very important for Ryan Mossakowski.

It has been a year since his shoulder surgery and his arm strength is no where near what it was said to be before. That might be grounds for concern.
