Here's hoping Buehner can return this year. Is he a senior? If so, I really hope he can return. Not much worse than a senior getting hurt and not being able to play the full season.

I could honestly be way off base here, because apart from having a friend who teaches at St. X, I don't have much really specific knowledge about any of the big Lousiville programs.

 

But from what I see, Manual, Male, Trinity, and St. X all seem to crank out huge programs year after year. It seems as if Trinity and St. X often (but not always) have the edge over Manual and Male, but when it comes down to it, these games are often won and lost an the basis of the teams' attitudes coming in, so records and point spreads amongst the 4 programs aren't necessarily all that useful for predicting the winner of any of their matchups.

 

Particularly drawing from Trinity and St. X and their mutual records against each other, it would seem to me that often times people can predict all they want, but until they have the ability to see and understand the mindsets of all the young men as they take the field at game time, anything they can offer will remain only as speculation.

Well there is a poster on here named XGradRockDad, seems pretty self explanatory to me.

 

I have a friend whose grandfather was an X grad and all of his sons were Shamrocks.

 

So despite the fact that you despise Trinity like it somehow killed your beloved puppy while your grandmother was cuddling with it, sometimes the sons of St.X folks choose Trinity. Much like how sometimes the sons of Trinity grads choose St.X.

 

Then sometimes the sons of either Trinity or X grads choose DeSales or Manual. :eek:

With all due respect - it seems to me that you are forgetting that (esp. in recent history) many CSAA kids have selected Manual - and have played

f-ball. There are numerous Youth Leagues all over the City and County. These leagues contain some incredible athelets and players. Where do they all go? :confused: They all do not end up at T or X ?

First of all, Manual is an excellent school and turns out a high level of National Merit Scholars. My concern with your wording about the “player pool” is that it is misleading, especially to people not living in Louisville. I would not underestimate the pool of student/athletes that Manual draws from. The way I understand Manual today (and after going to the school’s website) is that it is made of 5 magnet programs that accepts students from the entire county. To my knowledge, Manual does not even have a district like the Manual of old. In fact, under the “Frequently Asked Questions” on the website under “About Manual,” there is the question “Is transportation provided to Manual? --YES. JCPS bus transportation serves the entire county.”

 

Are there as many talented athletes as students as Manual? That might be hard to answer as well as if football is as high of priority as it is at Trinity and St. X. I had heard more than one person say that the baseball coach left Manual and went to Ballard because it was harder to get student/players into Manual. There was a Courier-Journal article not too long ago about how high of enrollment Male High School has and it is “busting out at the seams.” Some say this high enrollment makes it harder for athletic coaches to get players/students into Male as it use to be.
