This is really tough for me. It's between The Andy Griffith Show and The Simpsons. Not sure if I can pick.

I voted for the Cosby Show, it was one of my absolute favorites growing up.

Man, I loved Family Ties. I also loved Married With Children, and think it deserves the mention it's getting in the thread. Hilarious.

 

I really liked Happy Days too though.

It was the Pittsburgh Pirates that had the theme We Are Family not the Steelers.

I always liked Family Matters and Boy Meets world on TGIF when I was younger. We used to watch it every friday night.

I voted for Andy Griffith. I remember the show when it first came on TV in 1960. I am the same age as Ronnie Howard (Opie), and kind of grew up along with the show. I watched it every week as a youngster. Don Knotts has to be one of the funniest people in TV history. He elevated the show to it's popularity.

 

 

I'm also a big fan of Gilligan's Island, although I don't know if it is considered a "Family Comedy", and it wasn't one of the choices in the poll.

All 3 of those shows were great in their own way. Whenever I see the Andy Griffith show it just takes me back to my childhood.

King of Queens or Everybody Loves Raymond....

It was Andy for me. I also liked the Beverly Hillbillies. Don Knotts and Max Baer,Jr. were the two funniest characters I ever saw on TV.

Andy Griffith is just a good, wholesome yet funny show. I would give it the nod. It is interesting to see how many actors made appearances on TAGS. We could make a thread just to discuss that.

 

The Cosby show is certainly ground breaking and deserves accolades as well. I think that Family Ties may have been the best written and was also very good. I would also agree with adding All in the Family as a top 5 family comedy. It would probably get my vote as second.

 

On a side note, how about Melvin Allan. He played eight different characters on Andy Griffith and also played characters on The Brady Bunch (Sam the Butcher), All in the Family (Barney Hefner), Gomer Pyle (Sergeant Charley Hacker), The Dick VanDyke Show and Sargeant Bilko. He has to be the all time greatest TV "character actor".
