Agreed. I was hoping to see a big SR season from him to erase some of my doubts, but for several reasons that hasn't materialized yet, and there is an equal amount on Massa as there is on the system. No denying he simply isn't looking much like a high level prospect so far this year...

VERY unpolished throwing motion. Not trying to sound the least bit mean-spirited, as my brother knows the kid and family very well and he/they are first-rate, but he almost pushes the ball like a girl. The kid was a heckuva baseball player at one time, but that sport fell by the wayside in favor of basketball and football.

I just heard/read somewhere that Bardo is out for the entire season, and is scheduled to have Tommy John surgery stemming from the hyperextension of his arm. Is this true? If so, I feel terrible for Bardo. I know first hand the surgery and the length of rehabilitation and it's tough, and he deserves to finish out the season with his team as he really has proven himself. No one deserves an injury, let alone a season ending one in their senior year. God Bless.

It's impossible to tell what Massa is capable of, and the play-calling really doesn't do anything in the way of showing what his strengths or weaknesses are. Based off the little I've seen, he won't see the field anytime soon...but he's built a lot like Tony Pike, so maybe there is potential in there.

 

On Massa, I think the bolded is UC's thinking. He's big, he's strong, he's somewhat athletic. He verballed to UC after his sophomore year, which at the time many thought was a coup for the Cats. Maybe he's not developed as much as UC would have thought he would, but at the end of the day I doubt they care too much.

 

Keep in mind, Pike didn't walk onto the UC campus as anywhere near a finished product at qb. Many other quarterbacks around the city put up better numbers. It appears that one turned out well for the Cats. Massa may or may not ever see the field, but it won't be for at least three years, and a lot can happen in three or four years.

If the plan is for Massa to gray shirt, red shirt and then sit at the bottom of the depth chart before rising to national prominence after 4 1/2 years then I'm not sure there is a coach in America working that plan...

You're closer to the program than I am, so if you say it was after last year instead of the state title sophomore year, my bad. I thought it was before his junior year.

 

I know the story on Pike, and you're right, it happens, well almost never.

 

As far as Massa seeing the field in three or four years, that included the rest of this year. If UC recruited Massa to play as a freshman, redshirt freshman, or even redshirt soph, that's not good. But, don't most schools hope to always have juniors and seniors at the qb position, ready to step up, as Pike did last year?

If I undertand correctly, you are saying that, if you put an equally-sized KY and OH school in a football game, Kentucky will be better? That's a fairly large blanket over that statement.

 

Small schools beat large schools often in all states, in state and out of state. Enough for states, Kentucky or otherwise, to do away with classifications? No. Actually, heck no - they add classifications!

 

Lest we forget, it can work both ways. Three of Trinity's mere 18 losses this decade have come against a Tennessee program with one-third the enrollment of Trinity. All said, size doesn't matter...until you lose. And then, there is a bevy of other cliches that can be pulled out of the bag to explain away the loss.

 

Nevertheless, nice win for Highlands. We'd love to have you set up a home and home with one of our programs down here in Tennessee. MUS, with wins over South Panola and Olive Branch, is the class of the state right now, closely followed by new school Ensworth, which is coached by former MBA coach Ricky Bowers. On the public side, Alcoa and Riverdale would be good targets (I would say Maryville, too, if they showed any inclination to take their exclsuive Tennessee show on the road).

That is the terrible rumor going around. I am really hoping someone comes on here and says it is wrong. I think by Monday we know for sure.
