Birds played one heck of a good game. Defense really stepped up and quieted the doubters. Great execution of a great defensive game plan. In a simple analysis, this was just speed vs size and speed won out.

 

Actually a little surprised that we only scored 12. I'd thought we'd score more. We moved the ball well most of the game but just didn't finish the job in the red zone. Bardo ran the ball well and threw it well when the rare pass was called. Drennan had a big catch as did Gold.

 

Adam Weinel's field goal was sweet as were Hogue's punts.

 

Just an all around good football game.

 

This team is on a mission to go 15-0 and they are very determined.

 

At 9 this morning, the kids and coaches will be back up there getting ready for Dixie. It would be a shame to allow the accomplishments of a win over St. X to be overshadowed by a loss to Dixie on this coming Friday.

Just got done watching the game for a second time on TV. Had to make sure I hadn't dreamt the result of the first viewing. I'm kind of ashamed to admit that after seeing the birds earlier this season, I was just hoping for a competitive showing. The defense was amazing and almost looked like we had 15 players on the field. Again, congradulations to the players, parents, coaches, and community. Hope Bardo recovers quickly but I have no doubt everyone will step up and the birds won't miss a beat! Sure the boys will savor the victory but get back to work immediately on the quest for number 19. They now have a chance for a historic season.(undefeaated season, state championship, and beating a nationally ranked GCL power). Doesn't get any better than that. Think I'll watch the game again. Did that really happen last night???

Not having a full and complete understanding of the ranking system for Ohio state playoffs, how much damage did this do to St. X? I have heard often how the Cincinnati D-1 teams like playing against Kentucky schools with winning records as it adds value to the rank and rating system in Ohio. On the other hand, I heard last night that the loss to St. X will not have much impact. Which way is it?

 

Also, I thought the St X players and fans showed nothing but class before and especially after the game during the on field celebrations. Very favorable reflection of the St X coach and his staff and players.

The key in OH is beating good teams. However, when you do not beat them you do not benefit at all. Harbin points have two levels. You get points for the teams you beat and then you get points for the teams that those teams beat. HHS would be a great "Harbin cow" for X had X actually won.

 

So, it does hurt them due to them losing out on a lot of points.

I am looking forward to seeing the video so I can see the Gold catch. It looked as if he originally mis-timed his jump for the ball but impossibly hung in mid air for an extra half second to be able to haul the pass in! Unbelievable poise under that kind of pressure.

Th entire defense took it personal last last. I thought Austin Abner stepped up in a very big way.

Did anyone notice that the chain gang didn't come out on the field one time to make a measurment? All the close first downs were by X. THOSE REFS WERE DEFINITLY NOT HOMERS!!

 

I was too busy noticing that the refs always put X's ball forward and HHS ball backward when they spotted it. But hey, that's just me and it happens every game. :D

No, timeouts were all gone at that point I believe. We were discussing at that time that if the Birds could not punch it in on 3rd, there was no way to get another play off in time.

Congrads Highlands! Finally we can all get some respect in the bluegrass state, hopefully we can bring in more nationally ranked teams to the bluegrass, and send them home with a loss.

Big Win. But X could not of played much worse.

 

Highlands always seems to get these teams playing their worst game of the season. Coincidence I guess.
