I think the better question is Do 68% of you honesty think St. X will beat the Highlands Blue Birds Friday, or are you picking St. X because you are a St. X fan?

 

lol, I would venture to say there are far more Highlands fans on this board than St. X fans, and for sure there are more NKY fans. So really it's 68% of people just honestly know that St. X is way too much for Highlands. And the other 32% know as well, but are eternal optimists. Nothing wrong with that...

I'll be surprised if Highlands scores a TD within the first 3 quarters. They might get one against St. X's second or third team but the St. X first team defense is a whole different animal.

Maybe we could teach our student section to whistle that after every touchdown.

I like the fact that HHS scheduled this game. There is a lot more upside to winning than downside from losing this one for the birds. I'm sure Highlands will learn a tremendous amount about their team from this game, win or lose. X will expose weaknesses that other teams can't seem to find and this will give the birds some things to work on as the season continues.

I've seen crazier things happen in sports. In horse racing this is "the year of the bird". Mine that Bird won the Derby at 50-1. His connections backed him and were rewarded for doing so. This group of seniors at HHS is a special bunch. They may be longshots in this one, but a couple of breaks here and there. It could happen.

I'm glad you asked this question because you've given me an opportunity to distinguish the Highlands program from others. If the Highlands Bluebirds were playing the Chicago Bears today there isn't a doubt in my mind that every player on the Highlands football team and most of the Highlands faithful would genuinely believe that the Bears were going to get a butt whipping today. Everyone not only believes in the mission but more importantly know it's going to be accomplished. No other thought to the contrary enters the minds of these players or most of the Highlands faithful. Yes it's true that the 31 or 32% that pick Highlands to win probably are fans. But I would be shocked if any thought it wasn’t truly going to happen. That's the difference. Call it lunacy or whatever, but it is a genuine earnest belief. Highlands fans, players, ect.. will never hang their hat on playing teams close regardless of who they are or where their from.

 

I always wondered about those Bluebird fans and now I know it ... that is a picture of a bluebird next to "fanatic" in the dictionary.

Your examples are inappropriate because they are pro teams. Pro teams by their very nature are filled with talented players from the top colleges across the country. High school teams, on the other hand, are (somewhat) limited to where they can pull from. Heck, X pulls from the entire Cincinnati area. This is truly , as I pointed out, Muncie Central v Milan. Its an easy concept to follow.

If this game is supposed to get so out of hand, why doesn't Highlands try to schedule Trinity or Lou. St Xaiver every year? Would like to see who is the best teams overall in the state.
