Randy Wood has orchestrated two turnarounds.

 

He took over Morgan Co team in 2004 that had won maybe 5 or 6 games the previous 5 years. He won 15 games in two years there, including making the playoffs both years and earned a playoff win in 2005.

 

In 2008, he took over a West Jessamine team that was 1-20 in 2006-07 and were riding a 16 game losing streak. They were outscored in 2007 by a margin of 503-47. They won 3 games in 2008, but were much more competitive. And in 2009? They are 7-0. Now, West Jess probably won't go undefeated, they play Boyle and LexCath the next two weeks, but the improvement in Nicholasville has been dramatic.

 

That is quite a coaching job, especially for a guy who has only been a head coach for 5 years. :thumb:

Boyle did not win a game in 1967 or 1968. The Rebels were 9-1-1 in 1969, John Buchanan's first season. The tie was Washington County and the loss was Stanford HS. The Rebels defeated Greensburg, MMI, Harrodsburg, Garrard, Mercer, Lebanon, Anderson, and Danville. Can't believe I have forgotten the 9th team, but I was 4 years old.:sssh:

Lawrence County still has a better-than-average shot. Rowan County could give them a good test on Friday.

If Lawrence gets by a good Rowan Co. team friday night they will go undefeated in the regular season. After friday night they play a 1-7 Boyd Co and Tolisa WVa. Tolisa is an alright team. So I would say the chances of them doing it is great. From 0-11 to 10-0. Lawrence Co is favored over Rowan Co. So this could be the biggest turnaround in state history. Depending on what they do in the playoffs. They are a AAAA team. I don't know who they will have to play in the playoffs.

Lawrence should beat all 3 teams they have left very easily, Sheldon Clark is the only team they have played all year ranked better than 111.

Didn't coach Hilton go to Bourbon County and really turn them around in "97? I know they won a State Championship with him. Can't remember how they were before he got there.

When I played at Somerset in the 1980's we also had an 18 game swing from one year to the next. My junior year, 1986 we finished 0-9. My senior year of 1987 we went 9-4 and made the state semifinals.

 

Thats funny, my Sophomore year we went 16-0, State Champs and were 1-9-1 my Junior year. Don't ask where, it was an out of state school.

If Lawrence goes undefeated in regular season then they will most likely play the loser of this Friday's McCreary Central at Rockcastle Co game in the first round.

Dudley Hilton turning a perinial loser Bourbon County into a state champ in one year was a great turnaround.

 

Ya Bourbon Co. went form 3-7 in 1996 to 12-3 and state champs in 1997.

Didn't coach Hilton go to Bourbon County and really turn them around in "97? I know they won a State Championship with him. Can't remember how they were before he got there.

 

Before '97 they went 13 years with out a winning season.

I am getting up there. When I was a little guy, the Boyle County Rebels wore gold helmets and Harrodsburg was running the single wing with guys like Henry Parks, Venus Meaux and before them Bo Yeast. I saw the Rebs and Ads play at Centre College and the Rebels play at old Stanford HS. The central Kentucky small city schools were tough to beat- Bardstown, Danville, Somerset, Frankfort, Harrodsburg and Paris. Sorry I am somewhat off topic but I bet there are a few old folks like me out there that remember those days. :thumb:

 

On our topic, I wonder if any school has done what happened at Boyle in 1969- lose 20 in a row(1967 & 1968) and then win 9 games in one season(1969)?
