I think with all the factors of: Large Number of Wins, Consistency, State Titles I would say:

 

Beatty 7 Titles

Glaser 5 Titles

Dale Mueller 7 titles

Sam Harp 7 titles

 

 

There are a lot of others with maybe 2 or 1 titles and great success in terms of wins. Just looking at Titles as a separating factor and these four are at least 2 or more State titles ahead of the next guys who are active. I could easily see a MaGlone, Hilton, Haywood, Schneider, Redmond, and others make a great case but wins + Consistency + Titles brings these four to the top IMO.

Can not remember the coaches name but he coached a Mayfield:idunno:. Mayfield away seemed to be at the top and alway in the title game.

Coach Haywood has taken a young group of players, only a handful of senoirs, starting a gob of frosh and soph and in his system he is turning them not only into a football team but some mighty fine respectable young men. I would have been proud to have had him for a coach while I played at Belfry. As far as the one-dementional thing goes, so what, if it works why change it. My old coach told me before he passed away that football has never changed since he played back in the 40's and 50's...its all about fundimentals and execution, you block you tackle you control the clock and hit harder than the other guy, then most times you will come out on top. This is why the same teams are good year in and year out...great coaching and KY has a bunch of them. My hat is off to ALL coaches for taking the time to build character in our young men year after year.

Coach Roddy was a gem. I miss him.

Great Coaches are judged on three things '' the great turn around'', and ''Taking that program to the next level of winning'', and ''Titles'', if all of these are met they belong on the list of great coaches that are coaching today. Coach Hilton for Bell Co. would be on that list.

Coach Koz from Holy Cross definitely ranks among the top all time coaches.

 

At Holy Cross he does. There has only been two. He has never won anything......no way!

Sometimes it's the coach that does something with a program that never wins. There are alot of coaches out there that have taken over programs that were losers year after year and do the best coaching jobs. Redman took over a Ballard program that was not very good in the 70's and turned it into a strong program. 1 State Runner-up. He went to Waggener in the late 80's and won where nobody wins. At Male he took over a program that should win and he did win 3 State Titles, that's a coach. Beatty did the same thing at Trinity. Ty Scroggins is doing the same thing at Central. It also helps that they are not playing in the top class. Shawn Berner did the same thing at Ft. Campbell. There are so many good coaches out there that you can not narrow that list down to less than 20, because I guarantee someone can give you a name not on the list and that should be on the list. It's players and it's coache's that know how to use those players.

 

If we are going to talk about a coach that takes programs that never really had won before they were there then we have to look at Johnny Poynter who is currently at Bourbon County. He has taken two programs that did not win much before he was there in Pike Central and Trimble County. I am completely sure about Pike Central, but he is the winnest coach in Trimble Counties ftball history. He has the only play off win and its either being ranked top 10 or finishing ranked top 10 at the school. He is currently 2-2 but when he took that program over they program had barely over 3 games in the past few years. I know he may not have 100 wins as a head coach yet, but he must go into consideration when you look at newer coaches. Not to mention he has a ring from bourbon as a assistant.

Coach at a military high school which experiences constant turnover of students & the continuous real world challenge of coaching kids of Soldiers deployed to war.

 

Seems to me alot of people could coach that kind of talent. He is an excellent coach but talent helps in ALL these coaches that are being mentioned.

Not even close to true. Paducah Tilghman is an excellent example of a team that is year in and year out stacked with talent, speed & potential. It is obvious that not just any coach can turn potential into reality.

Then why weren't they winning with that talent before he got there?
