Best Coach in Kentucky...........Chuck Smith.

 

Currently Coaching High School I like - Mark Peach, Philip Haywood, David Buchanan, Shawn Berner, Dudley Hilton, And Larry French

 

I totally agree with Chuck Smith.. Winning 5 straight State titles and making it to a 6th straight, lost to a good Highlands team. Never been done before.

There are a lot of Coaches in South Eastern Kentucky that do a lot with very little. Not many state championships but the coaches in EKY face a lot of issues that other programs and coaches do not have to deal with and do very well for what they have.

Great post a lot of people think that the only thing that makes someone a good coach is that they win a state championship.

2003: 8-3; 1st playoff game (loss)

2004: 8-3; 1st playoff victory

2005: 11-2; 1st victory over a traditional powerhouse (Beechwood)

2007: 11-4; State finals (loss to Beechwood)

 

In 5 years Paul Rains turned a team that lost to EVERYONE, into a state finalist.

I am saying in my opinion Stephen Lickert from Holmes is a great coach. That's it!

What is his background as far as coaching locations and wins, etc? That is a long tenure.

I would have to nominate Coach Lucas at Bryan Station for the turn around him and his staff have made at Station over the last 4 years, they have quickly became a state power in 6A. Although, he is new to Kentucky he has been turning programs around in other states for years. Great job Bryan Station coaches!!!

I would agree he deserves recognition. He has done an amazing job in Lexington. Another coach who deserves some credit is Sam Simpson. Hes done a great job at Henry Clay.

I almost choked on this one. I checked the KHSAA here are some stats:

 

Schneider 517 games, 338 wins 65%

Hilton 418 games, 320 wins 76%

Haywood 429 games, 319 wins 74%

Redman 429 games, 307 wins 71%

Glaser 360 games, 296 wins 82%

Harp 381 games, 294 wins 77%

 

Just because you have the most wins does not mean you are a good coach. He has been coaching since the days of leather helmets. jmo

You might keep in mind that for about 10 years NewCath was playing in the Greater Cincinnati League ( Elder, Moeller, St. Xavier, etc.), you know all those teams that kick the Ky. schools butt EVERY TIME they play them. This could have something to do with their record back in the 60's & 70's.

Does anyone have the all time wins list for the current coaches? Just curious I sure the same people will be on here but I want to know where the stack up at?

Mr. Mueller was the head football coach at Cincinnati Sycamore High School (1991-1993) and Cincinnati Withrow High School (1984-1990).

It is my understanding that in 2004 Highlands had to forfeit all the games except for 2 because of playing Mitchell. Does this factor into this record? Because if it does then he would be over 90% in games that he actually won.
