Curious if there is a criteria for this honor?

 

For example, should every coach nominated be required to have won at least one State Title or multiple State Titles?

 

Should he have been a head coach for at least 15 years?

 

Should he have at least 100 wins as a head coach?

 

 

If there isn't a criteria to back up claims, aren't we all just nominating "our coach?" :thumb:

We can even say multiple programs that have been turned around...........

I would have to mention Coach Joe Hood, who coached at Louisville Butler and then came to Warren Central and put the program at Warren Central on the KHSAA radar map. At that time when there were only 4 football classes, when it came to 4A ball, the big 3 from Louisville (Trinity, St. X, Male) were all that were in the discussion year in and year out. Coach Hood created a rough, hard nosed environment in Bowling Green and the feeder system grew and the success stories grew as the program took its place among the elite in Class 4A during the late 1980's going into the 90's.

What about the new coaches that have started with little to nothing and are making thing happen. Ex (Steve Lickert-Holmes) This young man started his head coaching career just a few years ago and was able to give Dayton a great season while he was there. Then he makes the move up from 1A to Holmes and has them to a good start.

IMO Dale Mueller (HHS), Bob Schneider Newport Central Catholic, and Noel Rash Beechwood are great coaches and have had great years under there belt but lets not forget the up and coming guys too...

 

My vote goes to Steve Lickert :banana:

Dudley Hilton has to be way up there.

2nd all time in wins. 3 State championships with 2 different schools. Several Regional championship. He has never had a losing season in over 30 years coaching. Hes also built 3 different programs (although Bourbon fell off after he left).

He has a great staff this year with Tommy Greer, Fred Hoskins, Brian Yankee, Randy Frazier, Scotty Madon, Tommy Crockett, and Justin Dozier (I maybe forgetting someone). All those guys work very hard and do a great job coaching.

Dudley Hilton always gets my vote in these threads. The only guy I ever placed above him was Chuck Smith at Boyle County.

 

I just think the guy is a great high school football coach.

Hatz makes a good point that it seems we are all picking "our coach". Funny thing is, I'm going to pick Coach French. He walked into a Boyle County team that seemed to be headed from turmoil, a team with so many questions to be answered, and then puts Boyle County into the spotlight again. Before French got to Boyle County it's record was 5-7 the previous season, then the following season(French's first year) Boyle County goes to the State Semi-finals only to lose 17-15 to Bell County(eventual state champions). He inherited a good team no doubt. But he's a darn good coach and wins no matter he goes. Hands down one of the best coaches in Kentucky, if not the very best.

Raceland Coaching staff. No other teams in this area plays the schedule we play. We are a small single A school. We play every year the first 5 games only 3,4 & 5A schools. Every year we beat more then half of them. Last year we didn't lose to any of them. We are the only school around last year that beat 5A Ashland, 4A Greenup, 3A Russell, 4A East Carter & 3A West Carter. When these huge schools beat us they go crazy. This coaching staff has built a very good program.

 

You were probably one of the only schools in the state that played Ashland, Greenup, Russell, East Carter and West Carter!:thumb:
