Who are the most one dimensional coaches in the state?

Featured Replies

The JC QB controversy thread got me thinking.

Who are the most one dimensional coaches/teams in the state right now?

IMO: JC is one of the most one dementional Teams in the State, Coach Mattingley is still doning the things he did at Sheldon Clark, a long time ago.

A coaching tale or lesson I always remember is of Phillip Haywood at Belfry. Always known as run, run and more run coach through much of his career and still today. Sometime maybe 97 or 98 with Wright at QB and some smaller lineman went and threw the ball every down and had great sucess at it. My point being the good coaches adapt to what their teams can do.

Matney is but it does not mean it is not sucessful. Edge at Owensboro Catholic is another. Throws the crap out of it although they have/and still do had some monster OL and really good backs.

Boone's Coach Thompson is pretty one-dimensional IMO.

Russell and Coach McGlone. But the results are difficult to ignore, regardless of the dimensions.

I agree with both of the above. Both are very good coaches also.

Ivan Maglone at Russell, he runs the same thing year after year and has 30 years and 2 or 3 state titles to show for it.

Coach Matney had some years at SC where he threw the ball around a lot too. A check of the record books says the single game passing yards record is held by Jesse Watts, SC quarterback from 1991.

If they win, what's the difference?

I agree. A coach might be able to mix up formations and play calls with the best of them, but it's probably difficult to get a group of high school athletes to execute "multi-dimensional" game plans from week to week. It's kind of like being the jack of all trades and master of none.

Russell's coach Ivan McGlone is who immediately came to mind when I saw the thread title, but as others have posted, that's not necessarily a bad thing. The proof is in the results. Keep it simple! :thumb:

Well, of course you know that, in Kentucky, style matters most. Haven't you paid attention to the UK hoops threads and all the hand-wringing about this or that not being "Kentucky ball." :D

That's who first came to mind for me. One-dimensional, and almost always works like a charm. Hard to argue with his success over the years.

Yes he did. Had a QB in the mid 90's Harley Something????? who threw it a ton of times.
