Purple pride hinted at it earlier and I mentioned it after the Boyle game last year. It all starts up front and the ads have been subpar in the trenches on both sides of the ball for a while now. I know they've had injuries but it seems that brown is the only leader they have up front. Last year it made them inconsistent this year coupled with injuries and youth it's been devistating.

Time to take the interim tag in front of Coach Lucas*s name off. Way to go all of the coaches and a fine job by Coach Sloan calling the plays!

 

I couldn't agree more. Coach Lucas is doing a fine job with the team, the boys are playing loose and playing well. 5 weeks ago when Coach Cobb was still here everyone was predicting for Somerset to lose to Knox, Pulaski and Danville. Then after losing Coach everyone was sure we would lose those games and most would have been very happy to have been 2-2 at this point in the season. I'm not saying that Coach Lucas has done any better than Coach Cobb would have, everyone around SHS Football has thought for a couple of years that this could be a really really good year for the Jumpers.

 

What I am saying is that Coach Lucas took the job 4 days before the only scrimmage and 11 days before game 1. He took the job when a lot of outsiders thought this would be a lost season because of the upheaval right before the season. What Coach Lucas has done is keep these boys together and playing for each other.

 

If you play out the eventual conclusion of the season, barring a MAJOR breakdown, this will be an extremely nice season for Somerset football. If the rest of the season goes as the first four games have, Coach Lucas not being offered the job would be a travesty!!!

 

As the teams shirts say "WE ARE UNITED"!!! Coach deserves a lot of the credit even though he would never accept it.

There is not that kind of talent there right now. There was even a few that you didn't mention. I played with alot of those guys and go to most of the games now and there is no comparison. When you talk about talent at Danville it is always translatted into speed. One way you can tell the difference in the speed is when is the last time a Danville player has returned a kick-off or a punt for a TD? Of the top of my head I come up with one in the last 3 years. When Danville had those guys you were talking about they would get 3 a game. That talent is not there right now.

Things are about to get ugly in Danville.

7 fumbles and losing 4 of them fumbles will certainly not help your chances at winning a game.

If you're gonna lose, Mason, Corbin, and Somerset are nothing to be ashamed of. I think all three may win a game or two more this season.

 

Danville may be down a bit from their usual standards but they are a fine program. Any drop will be temporary.

Several years back there was a youth football program started in Danville, which is Danville Youth Football. Doing this these teams no longer were a part of Danville Boyle County Recreation football.

 

Is it to early to see results from this program. Or could starting kids so early hurt the program.

Just food for thought.

However, I believe the issue is not so much the losses. The issue is how these boys seemingly just give up. I sure hope these kids keep their heads up and start playing with some fire.

Yeah, it's too early, but I can guarantee it isn't hurting the program at all. The kids in their freshman class played in the Boyle County Rec league. It'll likely be another 5-6 years seeing how all those kids that started in the Danville Rec league at 6 years old are even playing middle school. I guarantee it is helping. Remind me next time I see you. I'd be happy to discuss the little league situation with you. I am on the Mercer County Board.

The youth attend these friday night games and dream of one day playing for their high schoolteam, especially if they have older brothers or family already in the program. So to answer your question on if it is to early...no. The earlier they start this the better Danville football in the lower ranks will become. Boyle is tough and Danville has to play in some big shadows, so hats off to them for trying to break away!!!!

Next 3 could very well be losses also, putting the Ads at 1-6.

I see them ending with a 3-7 or 4-6 season.

They start the at 5 and 6 years old(Kindergarten). Boyle County Rec League currently only lets them start at 8(3rd grade). It helps tremendously at the 3rd and 4th grade level. It remains to be seen how it helps out in the later years, but I don't see it hurting them any.

Had Somerset winning this one, but that score blows me away!! Coach Lucas has team flat out rolling! I don't see a team left on this schedule with a chance in the regular season. Somerset will roll to 10-0. Congratulations to those young men.
