More negative publicity for UK and coach Calipari?

Featured Replies

Let me make sure I am up to speed here. Jones states yesterday that a story will be coming out today that will not be good for UK. Now he is backing off saying it will be a couple of weeks before the story comes out and it's about Memphis and not UK?

Woo! That's a relief. I was really worried that he was going to come out with some kind of story about how Coach Cal is a shady character, and somehow he's going to lead KY into another probation. I guess we're safe for a little while longer.

I don't know what it is. I'm going with my gut on this one, but I suspect you don't like John Calipari.

It's not that at all. UK fans are going to give him a free pass no matter what he does. They will be the first ones to slam another program's coach and then turn a blind eye to their own coach and the skeletons in his closet.

Please insert Louisville, Duke, Indiana, North Carolina, Kansas, ect. etc. All fan bases do this. To imply that only UK fans do it is not quite fair. IMHO

What do you want UK fans to do? Boo him, write letters to President Todd calling for him to be fired, not show up at games while he is coach?

If UK still cheered for their team with BCG as coach you can't blame them for cheering on the Cats with guys like John Wall coming in.

I am a UK fan and I haven't always agreed with or supported every single thing he has done but he is our coach and he has made the fans very excited about this season.

This

Matt Jones is an idiot...

Too much of a homer too, to be able to be relied on for solid information.

Doesn't every fanbase support their coach? I think most of them do. You show me some proof of wrong doing and I'll still support him but I would acknowledge his wrong doing. With an organization the likes of the NCAA doing the finger pointing is not evidence of ANYTHING, IMO. And yes, I would feel the exact same way about any coach in America. Show me proof!! The NCAA doesn't have to prove anything, they say you're guilty and you're guilty. The have no burden of proof. It's really ridiculous. Who is policing the NCAA? NOBODY!!

My point......Every fanbase supports their coach, especially before he's even coached a game.

There's a fine line between support and denial

Is that like the "thin line between love and hate" that Chrissy Hine sang about? :D

Unless I'm mistaken, the NCAA hasn't ever accused Calipari of anything. They didn't say he had any part in either the Camby or Rose issues. Thats just coming from the media/other fans.

I think you just described nearly every hardcore fan base in America. Now why does UK get singled out for that?

The rumor swirling is that the Assistant that was fired yesterday was caught "tampering" with players at Memphis and that's the story. Don't know how true that it is, but thats what a more rabid UK b-ball fan than myself just told me he read on the internets. And if it's on the internets it must be true right?

If it's wrong his name is Jon and he is a student where I work but I don't know last name, but I will find it out and slap him with a fish. If he is right I will take credit for breaking the story on BGP and pretend I never heard it from him. :thumb:

I recommend the Catfish sub from Phillip's Market, it will sting Jon especially being a UK tradition. :thumb:

I agree.

Many in the media, and others as well, like to go on and on about Cal having a shady or sleazy side, but the man has never been accused or charged with anything. He is a successful recruiter, and with success breeds attention, suspicion, envy, fear, and a whole range of emotions from media and other fan bases. I mean we don't hear very much about the recruiting escapades of Joe Schmoe of Slippery Rock U.

Calipari self reported to the NCAA about the Camby case when he discovered what had happened. If he had wanted to be unethical he wouldn't have done that. And Rose was cleared by the NCAA for goodness sakes. They said he was legal to play. What was Cal suppose to do, say "Well, I know he's been ruled eligilible but since this was his third try at the test I'd better open up my own investigation and maybe not play him." No, he didn't do that and neither would have Coach K, John Wooden, Roy, etc.

I don't know if I'm in "denial" or not. What's being denied? What's the NCAA ever charged Cal with? If Cal does something to get UK in trouble then I will be very disappointed (but with Sandy around I doubt that he will). Until that day I'm going to support him and cheer for the Cats like I have for the past 50 years.
