More negative publicity for UK and coach Calipari?

Featured Replies

I agree.

Many in the media, and others as well, like to go on and on about Cal having a shady or sleazy side, but the man has never been accused or charged with anything. He is a successful recruiter, and with success breeds attention, suspicion, envy, fear, and a whole range of emotions from media and other fan bases. I mean we don't hear very much about the recruiting escapades of Joe Schmoe of Slippery Rock U.

Calipari self reported to the NCAA about the Camby case when he discovered what had happened. If he had wanted to be unethical he wouldn't have done that. And Rose was cleared by the NCAA for goodness sakes. They said he was legal to play. What was Cal suppose to do, say "Well, I know he's been ruled eligilible but since this was his third try at the test I'd better open up my own investigation and maybe not play him." No, he didn't do that and neither would have Coach K, John Wooden, Roy, etc.

I don't know if I'm in "denial" or not. What's being denied? What's the NCAA ever charged Cal with? If Cal does something to get UK in trouble then I will be very disappointed (but with Sandy around I doubt that he will). Until that day I'm going to support him and cheer for the Cats like I have for the past 50 years.

Doesn't every fanbase support their coach?
After 12 years of watching UK fans rip on Tubby and Gillispie ... I would say not.
There's a fine line between support and denial

What is Calipari guilty of?

The NCAA has conducted thorough investigations & has not named Calipari. I agree that Calipari, whether he's named or not, should bear some of the responsibility, but at what point is he able to clear his name? Those who are making the allegations & pressing "charges" have not listed him.

What bothers me is how Calipari gets his name dragged (drug?) through the mud, but very rarely do you hear any negative publicity about Coach K or Roy Williams...

That's because Coach K and Roy Williams wins National Titles ... unlike Coach C, who gets Final Four banners brought down.

The point is Corey Magette gets in trouble and nothing is said about Coach K. Derrick Rose gets in trouble and its all Calipari's fault.

Is that the point? Because I sure didn't see that in his message he just wrote???????

Bottom line, That's because Coach K and Roy Williams wins National Titles ... unlike Coach C, who gets Final Four banners brought down.

Read it and weep. Go SC.

There's also a fine line between objectivity & slander.

John Calipari is 50 years old.

Roy Williams is 59 years old.

Coach K is 62 years old.

Calipari spent several years coaching in the NBA. Give him time, I believe we will have some Nat'l titles before too long.

But basically what you are saying is even though Calipari is guilty of the exact same thing that Coach K and Roy Williams is (which is nothing) he has his named drag through the mud. Coach K and Roy Williams are exempt because they have won Nat'l titles.

Okay then...I'll write it. Memphis was stripped of a final 4 because they allowed an athlete to play that the NCAA deemed ineligible (after the season was completed, mind you & after they had cleared him to be eligible), because there was questions regarding his SAT. So the banner comes down.

Duke violates the same law with Corey Maggette (there's more proof of this instance, since there's public record of Maggette confessing that he had taken money, therefore forfeiting his amateur status). But nothing happens to Duke & Coach K (who was quoted saying that he was anticipating a punishment). No banner comes down.

I'm not naive enough to think that Calipari has been clean his entire coaching career. But neither am I naive enough to think that the NCAA didn't look the other way in the Duke/Maggette situation.

Once again - Bottom line, That's because Coach K and Roy Williams wins National Titles ... unlike Coach C, who gets Final Four banners brought down.

Read it and weep. Go Tubby Smith!

Williams and Krzyzewski haven't had Final Four appearances vacated, either.

I defend Calipari on all this stuff ... I see no wrongdoing on his part in either of the two cases. But I can see where some people wonder if his programs have always done things on the up-and-up ... heck, I wonder that about just about everybody.

National championships have been stripped before. It's about the universities K & Roy represent, not about their own accomplishments.

I think that every major program has some shady dealings. I have read about several Duke player's family members landing lucrative jobs in the Durham area after their kid signed there. Several schools give jobs to high school coaches of big time recruits..........................

Although Williams & Coach K haven't had anything vacated, they've been involved in things that are equally as shady, if not worse, than some of the things Calipari has had happen in his program.

Neither has received the amount of attention as Calipari.

And the whole Derrick Rose ordeal is far from Calipari's fault, unless he (or someone on his staff) arranged for the stand-in to take Rose's test. Heck, the NCAA cleared him & allowed him to play. He did, and he played well. THEN they say he's ineligible because he failed to respond to some letters? C'mon. I just don't see how that could be Calipari's fault...at all.
