Scott and Lexington Catholic have better players. They both have add D-1 guards the past 3 years. When you have better players you can play that way and win. When talent is close you lose. I think the reason why is what colonel Mike said the other team will eventually get back on defense, the other team will eventually take care of the ball.

Like any scheme, it requires DISCIPLINE. I don't care if you play a slow pace, fast pace, or helter-skelter pace, if you aren't disciplined, eventually you will be exposed.

Most kids want to play fast. I think if a team works hard to get in good shape and has some depth playing fast is the way to go anytime of year. I think that is a silly myth that you can't play fast in March.

Agree, I thought Holmes and Eastern and J'town and Central and Elliott, etc. all played pretty fast and pretty well in March.:thumb:

From the Sweet 16 you could throw Shelby Valley in there as well. I thought they played up and down too.

You guys are talking about teams with the best players in their regions. If your talent is better than the other teams you want more possessions. If talent is even or close to even you will get beat. THE HOLMES TEAM I SAW IN RUPP WAS A TEAM THAT COULD LOCK YOU DOWN IN THE HALF ON DEFENSE. I actually watched J-TOWN as well this past year and I witnessed a team very good Defensive club in the half.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: you can press, and shoot quick shots against teams your better than. But when the other team is close to you in talent you MUST BE able to defend in the half because your not going to make good teams turn it over to much. AND LETS REMEMBER THIS IS ABOUT NORTH OLDHAM, not state powers. This style might work if Hicks ends up as good as everyone says he will be.

Playing fast and getting up and down the floor does not mean you can't play good half court defense. That still don't mean you can't get after people and even turn them over playing half court defense. If your not a good defensive club you can't win come the post season in KY. That does not mean you can't play fast and push the ball and even have a lot of freedom to fire a lot of 3s (like Elliott Co, Shelby Valley, LexCath, etc).

If Coach E can get the Mustangs to play better half court D and if he can take some of his own emotions out of the equation, NOHS may be the team to beat in the 8th region.

I think your on to something here; I thought that last year NO tired to press everyone the entire game and that hurt them.

Just a little info on Hicks I thought I'd pass along. He visited UC this past weekend and will be headed to Ohio State and Indiana in October...

I thought there was a rule that said that colleges were not allowed to contact or recruit a player until something like May or June of his Sophomore year of high school. Did I dream that?

How old is Hicks anyway? I know he is a "freshman" but is he a true freshman?

That doesn't mean they can't contact the parents during allowable contact periods. These are unofficial visits paid for by the family...

Good for him that they have the money to travel like that! Good luck to him!

Sounds like you're talking about a college player there...

(Seriously - Yes, he's a "true" freshman)

Good, that's what I wanted to hear....that makes him TRULY worthy of being ranked at and in the top of the class of 2013! Good luck to him and NO this season!:thumb:

I guess that depends on your definition. I believe he is an AAU exemption but most of the top 10 ranked are also.
