North Oldham 2009/2010

Featured Replies

The bottom line to me about their coaches is this. They had similiar talent to Anderson, Shelby, and the rest of the region for the past 2 years and they couldn't get the job done. Noe they go get 2 starters form other places. Its hard for me to give them any kind of compliment. They work hard but they have proved they can't beat good teams with "their" players. If they do this year I still will struggle giving them much respect.

Nice Post. They do have similar talent, but just cannot win the big game and get the job done.

North has 2 new transfers, one from Shelby Co and one from Eastern.

I went all the way to the top to verify; and there is no boys basketball transfer at this time at North Oldham. (Hicks is technically not a transfer since he has never attended a high school before this year). If there is a player coming from Eastern HS, he hasn't filled out the paperwork to be eligible... Not sure when one would have to have the paperwork done, but this is apparently just a myth...

My sources say he attended Eastern but did not play.

Wow. Ghosts at North Oldham. Amazing how stuff gets started. Does this ghost from Eastern have a name?

My sources say he attended Eastern but did not play.

By definition then, he is not a basketball transfer. Thanks for the clarification.

Amazing. People are slamming North for a kid transferring who's didn't play HS ball at the school he left??? :ohbrother:

I heard that Shelby County may be challenging his eligibility (not sure it will do any good). Also was told that Hicks's family did not move to Oldham County, but that he is living with his AAU coach.

I'm not sure any of this will effect his eligibility.

I was told this was the case from a reliable source. Hicks is living with his AAU coach (of The Ville) during the week and back in Shelby County on the weekend with his parents. This is not the most normal situation for a freshman in high school. Having raised boys I know it is not always the easiest transition to high school for fresman boys, I hope this kid remains humble and stays on the right track. History has shown that some people don't handle being put on a pedestal very well. They fall because they don't think are held to the same standards as the general population. At the end of the day they are indeed held to those same standards.

While Hicks or even the potential kid from Eastern don't fall under the transfer rules, Hicks did play high school basketball at Shelby County. And, by the way, I am not bashing North Oldham. If the Hicks wants to send their kid to the moon, they should be allowed to do so.

Sorry - I guess I wasn't clear - I was referring to the mystery Eastern transfer in my post. I know Hicks played ball. The unnamed Eastern kid apparently did not - which causes me to wonder why he was ever brought into this discussion in the first place. Is he tearing 'em up on the park courts???

If Hicks does not live with his parents "in" the school district this could be a bordeline rules violation. Maybe not this year but surely will come up in years to come. I have been thru this and have had kids I coached go through this.

What this really comes down to is that one of North Oldham's coaches was Hick's AAU coach. Was Hicks lured to North, prolly so but what needs to happen is the KHSAA needs to do something about paid High School coaches coaching AAU teams. I have no problem with these coaches doing the High School AAU tournament, but unless there is a rule or guideline put into place not letting paid coaches coach these all-star AAU teams. Let the parent or guy at the corner store that think they know it all coach these teams. How many times are these kids told to come to another school? I would say that there are countless times where these kids are sitting in hotel rooms with coaches on trips and the coaches are telling these kids to come to their school. So we can all say what we want about the kids transfering before their freshman year, but at this time I do not think there have been any rules broken with the transfer. I hope for the kids shake that he is allowed to play and does not miss out on a year of basketball.

The AAU coach is not a paid coach for North Oldham but his son's friendship with Hicks as well as Hicks playing for him in AAU is definitely an advantage.

Their coach has done an outstanding job of building a program. North is becoming the basketball school of the county.

Building a program is one thing.. move-ins are 'not' to be included in building a program...natives in that area are getting restless with the move ins!!

actually you don't have to be a paid coach ( like he needs the $) he did coach their young team at team camp.. thus he is a acting representative of the school.
