Brohm

Featured Replies

With his lack of arm strength, I wouldn't be so sure.

It wasn't an Elway arm, but we've seen many QB's do well with arms in his category...I think he struggled as much with the mental aspect as anything.

He struggled with a terrible team, and an even worse O line! Then the injuries took there toll. :isurrender:

Hard to throw on your BACK. :sssh: He did lead Cleveland to the Playoffs.:sssh:

:thumb: I really think that the entire situation in Cleveland made it much worse than it could have been on Couch. I think the system he ran at UK hurt him more than it helped him. He did not handle the injury to his shoulder/arm appropriately and tried to play with it, which only made it worse. I don't think he would have been a great NFL QB, but he could have been a good one. He had a decent arm, but not a cannon.

And as far as arm strength, the best ever, Joe Montana, was always knocked for that. The difference was that Joe rarely made bad throws and seemed to see the field much better than most. He also generally had a much better O line who took pride in keeping him off his back.

As far as Brohm, I think he sees the field pretty well and is one smart cookie. However, the NFL game is so much faster than college that the adjustment is often overwhelming.

I remember the debates from a couple of seasons ago asking who would be better between Woodson and Brohm. I stuck to my guns that neither would amount to much beyond college. Hopefully they can still prove me wrong.

People sometimes just neglect how difficult it is to be a a QB in the NFL. You have Brady, Manning, and Roethlisberger. Beyond these 3 guys, I am not sure who anyone really trusts 100% to operate a franchise with. The guys right below them like Warner, Eli, Cutler, Palmer, Ryan, etc. have never had consistent careers or are relatively unproven.

^Drew Brees.

I agree with everything you said, except I would throw Brees in there with Brady, Manning, and Ben, but what about Eli? He's led the Giants to 4 straight playoff appearances and has a superbowl ring, and is now the highest paid QB in the league isn't he, or at least up there.

If we want to throw Eli and Brees in there, that is fine. People still question Eli and Brees has not won a whole lot. I am not trying to rank the QBs necessarily or get in to that debate, just trying to get the point across that the chances of failing as an NFL QB are 100x greater than succeeding.

Tim Couch took the Browns to the playoffs despite having no offensive line whatsoever. Barring injuries he could have had a more successful career.

I think Eli has to be in the conversation. :thumb:

I don't think anyone expected Brohm well at least early on to struggle reading D's like an Akili Smith.

On a side note, minus the last play of the game when the ball was knocked away, Cantwell looked surprisingly good tonight.

Come on guys he was a bust and thats all there is to it. If he was not a UK guy, then there would not be anyone trying to make up excuses for why he didn't do well. I mean the reasons you all have said, could be said for every single top 5 draft pick that was a QB that flopped in the NFL. So lets no make excuses for him, unless people want to use the same ones for all the others who failed in the NFL too.

By the way I am a huge UK fan and loved Tim Couch when he was at UK.

Agree :thumb:

He was a great college QB, but a flop as a pro. I seen somewhere he is a top 10 bust of all time.

And I think most of us will agree that you have done a pretty good job of that.
