August 7, 200917 yr Interesting article. Something I’ve always found ironic is that the Fort Campbell mascot is a Falcon since the post is home to the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles”. Of course Fort Knox are the Eagles and had a high school first so I’m sure that had something to do with it.

August 7, 200917 yr The Poca Dots in West Virginia is one of my favorites and very original. I remember having to go there. It is an awesome name. Very original and funny.:thumb:

I always found that one interesting, I must say though that a player/kid would have to be mean to say that he was a member of the "fighting Poca Dots" One other nickname/mascot was when Raceland was known as the "Ramblers", the name itself imo was not all that unusual but the reason behind the name wasn't what some would think. When Raceland was first named the Ramblers it was bc they had no home field or gym at first and they played all their games on the road/away. People would say that Raceland team just "rambles" around everywhere to play their games. Later years the Ramblers had a Ram as the logo/mascot anmd then years later changed the niclname/mascot to the "Rams". I personally still like Ramblers as the name. At least that's the story I got as to the origin of the name.:idunno:

August 7, 200917 yr Tons of generic mascots, but also some very good ones. I remember when Harlan County was being formed, and we had a thread on BGP about what it should be, and many really liked Miners, and luckily they didn't stoop and select Wilcats or Eagles. Now Muhlenberg has a choice and they select "Mustangs" over Miners, that's just odd.
