The Scribe Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Odds are, Dusty is heading for a bad ending in Cincinnati. Without debating how long until he's gone or the reasons why, who is on your short list of managers to replace him? Do you want another veteran manager or is it time to give an up-and-comer a shot? Just throwing some names out there. Bobby Valentine and Bob Brenly are proven winners Mike Hargrove has said he wants another shot Possible up and comers? Boston bench coach Brad Mills Tampa bench coach Dave Martinez White Sox bench coach Joey Cora Twins first base coach Jerry White Braves hitting coach Terry Pendleton Cardinals 3rd base coach Jose Oquendo Personally, I think they should go after Pendleton before Cox retires.
SSC Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I like Valentine and I hope Dusty isn't here next year.
Da champ Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I like the guy thats managing against them today. Jim Tracy did a good job in Los Angeles. Pittsburgh is a major league managerial job but its been a long time since anyone has been successful there. As for someone with no experience how about Dave Duncan the pitching coach for the Cardinals. Jocketty knows him and what he's done as a pitching coach is second to none.
The Scribe Posted August 2, 2009 Author Posted August 2, 2009 Jocketty knows Oquendo also, and Oquendo is younger
The Scribe Posted August 2, 2009 Author Posted August 2, 2009 If I'm not mistaken, Bud Black is the only former pitching coach that is now a manager
HammerTime Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Give him a team that he can maybe work with then I will judge him.
#10NtheProgram Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Not just because he is a home town boy but how about Don Gullett. Dude knows his baseball and all he did as a player was win championships. He was dealt a bad hand as pitching coach while with the Reds but he got more out of those guys than anybody ever could have expected. Played under Sparky and Billy Martin so you know he has learned alot. I'm just saying that he deserves a chance but will probably never get one.
sumoroyal Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 How about Barry Larkin with Sean Casey on the staff????
LCPATS Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I was supportive of Baker until this last week. Sure this team is void of MLB caliber talent, but that doesn't excuse them from quitting. Some of the mental errors they've been making indicates that they have Quit. That is a direct reflection of the skipper, no matter how you spin it. Baker should be let go, but I doubt he is.

mcpapa Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 If it's Hargrove, I hope he makes his visits to the pitcher's mound with more alacrity than his visits in the batter's box as a player.
duck1220 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 1. Joe Morgan:popcorn: With Don Gullett replacing Dick Pole. Gullett did a great job with staffs that weren't near what we have now.:thumb:
