August 3, 200917 yr I would take my chances with someone other than Dusty. He is terrible. His in game strategy is horrible. Sending Homer Bailey (a rookie pitcher) up to bunt against a guy throwing 97 mph with Janish, Tatum, and Taveras sitting on the bench. Not to mention Harang, and Cueto who are both better bunters than Homer. He just set him up to fail. He is horrible. Reds would not be 14 games under 500 with a good manager. Not saying they would be over 500 but better for sure.

From Baseball Prospectus off of his blog: So the Reds keep throwing Willy Taveras out in center field pretty much every day, despite the fact that he's pulling off the rare double threat of both an on-base percentage and slugging percentage under .300. Meanwhile, Stubbs is now batting .281/.370/.375 at Triple-A, and his numbers are brought down by a June slump. He's nearly as fast as Taveras, a better basestealer (42-for-49 in his attempts), and arguably the best defensive center fielder in the minor leagues. Basically, he's just a flat-out better baseball player on every level and deserves a shot.

August 4, 200917 yr Maybe Jocketty is going to offer the Cardinals a Rolen-for-LaRussa trade ... I don't think those two can exist in the same clubhouse, given the way they combusted in St. Louis. Who's more important here Larussa or Rolen? Rolen would play for whoever coaches or be out of here.

August 5, 200917 yr My point is that if Jocketty thought LaRussa was a serious option for the Reds, he wouldn't have gone out and acquired Rolen. totally disagree on that. He was tired of dealing with EE's inepitude and had a chance to improve the position.

It's a shame they won't just come out & say it. It'd make a lot of people happier & educate the others. Lance lost all credibility with me when in the preseason he said this was a Reds team to be excited about. There was a lot of excitement in the preseason, and rightfully so. The Reds were a darkhorse that needed everything to go their way. It didn't quite work out, but most of us realized that they were still a year or two away anyway. I never expected them to lose 13 out of 14 though.
