Weathers

Featured Replies

Good pitcher or not. Good guy or not, he needs to be gone, as well as Rhodes,Cordero,Harang,Arroyo,Gonzales. The Reds have proven that they can't go anywhere with these guys, so go with youth and your farm system. Enough is enough. Business decisions need to be made, no more mister nice guy, don't matter what Weathers did last year or is doing this year or does tommorrow, he is a major liability on this team ,but maybe an asset to get youth.

No disrespect but you couldn't be farther from the truth.

What's the Reds record this year with him? What was the Reds record last year with him? How much does he make? Enough said. Give his innings to an up and coming pitcher or his money to a future shortstop. His liablilty is that he is taking these spots. Cordero and Rhodes have both been as good or better than Weathers now and in the past and they need to go to.

What was the Red's record the year before that or before that or before that. Is that on Weathers too?

You cant have aceses from top to bottom. If the Reds could score more than 3 runs a game you would'nt have to worry about Weathers blowing it in the

8th. Weathers always takes the blame because he is always put in that situation. It's not his fault the Reds can't hit, throw, field, or run the bases.

No disrespect but you couldn't be farther from the truth.

Keep on thinking that way as the Reds drift farther and farther into the abyss. What is the truth by the way? Keep everybody until they have absolutely no value

The truth is he is a nice middle reliever.

I love people who show up when a team is in last place and start to bash players....where were you the rest of the season?

Wouldn't you like it better if they stayed out of last place? You watching these guys? 3 no hustle plays allow 3 runs yesterday. They have quit. They deserve any bashing dealt out. A real fan is not at all happy with what is going on woth this club right now.

Then bash the players who showed no hustle. Weathers might have been one...i didn't see the game yesterday...but I doubt it. I know Agon was one...yet no one has started a thread about him. People have no reason to bash Weathers. He's a class act and has done a fine job during his time in Cincinnati. It's far from his fault this team is in last place

Agon had two "lapses" and Rhodes didn't cover third on a bloop behind 3rd. Runner on 1st walks to 3rd. These are things little leaguers do routinely. I'm not blaming Weathers. He's just a cog in the wheel.

Anyone who thinks Weathers is a problem is overlooking the biggest problem in the Reds organization. Harang is 0-8, and about to be 0-9 in his last 9 decisions and is getting payed 14 million a year. My grandma could have the same record as him if she pitched 9 straight games.

Yeah, Weathers really sucked in the eighth inning tonight ... if you're a Cubs fan.

Got out of bases loaded 1 out jam. What a lucky bum he is. You know what they say, even a blind squirrel....

Weathers had done a very nice job for the Reds since they acquired him. He's earned his money for the most part. But he'll be 40 years old in another month and his salary ($3.3 M) is too much for the Reds. They should be able to find the same production out of their farm system and save some money. Not anti-Weathers at all - he's a great competitor - but there just comes a time when age starts to factor in to production/value and I think that time is here.

David (stormy) Weathers could not pitch to a highschool athelete and get an out IMO.:puke::ohbrother: You just can not rely on him any more. Thoughts?

Normally I don't reply to these posts on Pro Sports but this sounds to me like more of a NYyankees13 bash than a David Weathers bash. As a Red's season ticket holder for many years I can tell you that I watch every inning of every game that the Red's play because I love the game of baseball. NYyankees13 is absolutely correct on David Weathers. He is a "bum" in the role that Crusty Baker has him in is as a hold man. He is supposed to be the pitcher to get you to the closer and give you the best chance of winning when you have a lead in the late innings. He has failed miserably at that role and the closer role prior to that. When he was the closer here he annually blew 8 or more saves a season. Here are a few of his numbers, not what you want in a hold man.

2009 ERA 3.41 Whip 1.19 W/L 2-3 Inn 37.0 HA 27 BBs 17

2008 ERA 3.26 Whip 1.53 W/L 4-6 Inn 69.1 HA 76 BBs 30

2007 ERA 3.61 Whip 1.22 W/L 2-6 Inn 77.2 HA 67 BBs 27

2006 ERA 3.57 Whip 1.30 W/L 4-4 Inn 73.2 HA 61 BBs 34

Now I guess the Red's are at fault in putting him in this role. I would have no problem with him being a middle inning guy or someone to bring in if the Red's are behind. You need this type pitcher as well and he is a competitor as someone else stated. Weathers has no "Out" pitch and throws in the high 80s at best. He is entirely too "hittable" as his numbers clearly show. By no means has he been solid as someone else stated and he definitely is not what you need for a hold man. For too long now this Red's organization has rewarded mediocrity and you can see the results. I can only hope that Castellini and Jocketty are looking at the future and planning for a return to the glory days when the Red's were competitive. Just my opinion but getting real sick of mediocrity.

^ Are you sure about that??

Weathers has never blown 8 saves in a season in his career..

His 3.54 ERA in his career with the Reds is also terrible..:ohbrother:

I'm also not sure where you got your ERA's in your post because they are wrong. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=124000
