I don't think the Reds have quit. The problem is they're playing with fewer bullets than the other team. Thanks to injuries and such, the lineup they trotted out against the Cubs on Tuesday night had two, maybe three, guys that deserve a starting spot in the major leagues.

All the supporters on here are apologists. Who is too blame for this decade of futility. You guys have a stat or excuse for everyone.

Cordero has 25 blown saves the last 3 1/2 years....everybody always says he does such a good job...

Now you want to compare Cordero and Weathers?? Don't even insult us with that one. Weathers over his career converted 59% of his save opportunities versus Cordero's 81%. Some of the top save guys today including Papelbon, Nathan and Rodriguez have converted between 80 and 90 percent over their careers and they have pitched for much better teams than the Reds, Milwaukee and Texas.

Weathers' numbers in nearly five years in Cincinnati:

3.57 ERA

118 unintentional walks

231 strikeouts

 

8.1 hits per nine innings

3.2 walks per nine innings

A nearly 2-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio

 

Not bad numbers at all, especially for a guy pitching half his games in GABP. And he's been durable ... he's on pace for 64 appearances this season, the least he will have had in a Reds uniform.

 

Weathers isn't the best reliever in the league, but he's in the better half.

If you can't admit Weathers has been an asset during his time with Cincinnati then you are sadly mistaken. Heck...maybe he hasn't been an 'asset' but he sure as heck hasn't been a liability during his time in Cincy.

Save percentages can be misleading for set-up guys. They can be charged with blown saves in the eighth inning, even if they were never going to get a chance to pitch the ninth and finish it off.

We can argue this till the cows come home. Put a poll out there and see if you can get a good number of people's votes yea or nay for the value Weathers has provided the Reds over the last few years. If you get a good enough sampling you will see that your opinion is of the minority.

And of that poll one side would be voting based on stats which equal out to the above average relievers in the game, and one side is giving a ridiculously biased opinion..
