born2reign Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4362093 I am genuinly shocked at this! :scared: "Quarterback Brett Favre has informed Minnesota Vikings officials that he will remain retired, according to The Star Tribune. Coach Brad Childress confirmed the news to the Star Tribune, leaving the Vikings in an unexpected and awkward spot with training camp set to open Wednesday. The Vikings are now left to choose between Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels as their 2009 starter."
PurplePride92 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 He did the right thing. I am happy he made this decision. So long, Brett. I enjoyed watching you.
dolamite Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Brad Childress: "Mrs. Secretary. Could you please give Mike Vicks people a call and tell them to get back to us ASAP. Thanks."
MJAlltheWay24 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Good. I would really like to not have to hear about Brett Favre again until his speech at his Hall of Fame Induction.
gchs_uk9 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Good. I would really like to not have to hear about Brett Favre again until his speech at his Hall of Fame Induction. I would almost be willing to bet his name comes up around mid-season in response to a team on the verge of making the playoffs. He'll consider the option and perhaps will come back. And the world will spend about a month ramming the idea down our throats. In no way do I think this soap opera is over.
mcpapa Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 favre (v) [fahrv] - to leave a professional football team hanging for weeks on end regarding one's career choices while milking related publicity for all it's worth.
bigblueinsanity Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I'll believe this at the end of week 16 :thumb:
SouthernSportsFan Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 As much as I get tired of listening to the reports of him leaving, coming back, leaving, and coming back, I look at it this way: You have one life to live. Make as many decisions as you want. If you want to retire, come back, retire, and then come back, it's perfectly alright. These opportunities aren't forever. ESPN and the other sports entities make this awful for everyone else.
Da champ Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Well why would he go through with surgery and all the work outs ? Looks like a way to miss some training camp then come on in. I don't think we've seen the end of this. I like Favre and as you all know drafted him in FFL. This is getting old...

Thank God this is over. I used to be a Brett Favre fan. I am not anymore.
Eagle 4 Life Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Great move for Brett Farve. He don't feel he can compete at 100% for the whole season plus playoffs. He was thinking of the whole team not just himself, so great move for him. Maybe his name will come up again next off season.:ohbrother:
BoondockSaint Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 No, Brett Favre makes it awful for everyone else. If he didn't want it to be so public, he wouldn't have made it so public. Thank God this is over. I used to be a Brett Favre fan. I am not anymore. How is he responsible for the actions of the media?
gchs_uk9 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 How is he responsible for the actions of the media? Ed Werder of ESPN reports on an almost nightly basis of text messages between himself and Brett Favre.
BoondockSaint Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Ed Werder of ESPN reports on an almost nightly basis of text messages between himself and Brett Favre. That still doesn't make him responsible for other peoples actions. Obviously they're friends and they talk, but that doesn't mean Werder has to repeat himself every night on T.V. for 2 months saying the same exact thing over and over.
