Not being close to an expressway exit is why I thought it was an odd location for a Cracker Barrel. But Cracker Barrel is its own destination for many people now so it will probably succeed there. If they build it, they will come.

Their business model seems to be attracting travelers who stop off on their way to or from a destination. With a location so far away from an expressway, I just don't see the consistent traffic necessary to keep them afloat. Sure the after church crowd will be huge, but what about the other 5-6 days of the week?

But Cracker Barrel is its own destination for many people now so it will probably succeed there. If they build it, they will come. There's a LOT of population in Campbell/Pendleton to pull from despite it not being right off 275. I think it will be fine. It won't be like Florence but I do think it will succeed.

However, I never got the impression that I was in the majority. Looked like mostly locals to me.

November 17, 20169 yr Just joining in on the conversation. The other option was the lot to the south of Campbell County Chevrolet's body shop. It would have gone at the intersection of US27 and the AA behind White Castle, BUT the city fathers wouldn't let them put up one of their expressway signs. If you notice City BarB-Que has a logo on the Expressway eateries sign on the AA at the US27 exit, and it is located 2.8 miles from the exit. I'm sure plenty of PO'ed folks expecting it to be within sight when exiting for some ribs.

January 19, 20179 yr Demolition clears way for Cracker Barrel COLD SPRING – Walls are tumbling down at a longtime Northern Kentucky nightclub and restaurant to make way for a new Cracker Barrel Old County Store. Demolition crews from Covington-based Hosea Project Movers dug into the more than 100-year-old landmark Jan. 18 at 4210 U.S. 27, Cold Spring. Cracker Barrel submitted plans to build its second Northern Kentucky restaurant at the 7.6-acre site in November 2016. Property tax records value the property at $1.6 million. Demolition is expected to be finished by Jan. 20, Cold Spring Mayor Angelo Penque said. Under an agreement with Cracker Barrel, Cold Spring plans to turn a lake on the property into a park with trails. Opening of a newly constructed Cracker Barrel may happen as soon as late spring or early summer this year, Penque said. "For Cold Spring, we're excited about the future," he said. Opened in 2009, Nightclub Guys' n' Dolls was the last of a string of short-lived businesses to occupy the 15,000-square-foot building once used as a 19th-century livery barn. Guys' n' Dolls closed in 2012. Afterward, the weddings and special events center Devannas on the Lake leased the building for two years until closing in 2015. Afterward, a Guys' n' Dolls sign was put back up. The Cold Spring Roadhouse was the building's name for eight years until 2007. Before 1999, eateries Buckskin Bev's, Frontier Cattle Company and Red River Cattle Company were in operation. In the 1960s and 1970s, the original Guys and Dolls nightclub operated in the building. Back in the 1940s the building thrived as the Plantation restaurant. "It's a lot of history here and I think the people of Campbell County could look back and have a lot of memories here," Penque said.
