Guys and Dolls has opened

I give up! :ohbrother:

Classic rock groups, like it or not, are immensely popular.

LN and I accept your offer. And if it closes before then, we'll treat you to the seniors' special at the Golden Corral. :thumb:

Hold on there my friend. If this place is still open in two years, Clyde's treating us to something better than a stinking cheeseburger and he's paying for drinks too (remember, every dollar we can drain out of his pocket, is one less dollar he can contribute to the CovCath football program).

There wasn't much in the way of live entertainment back when the original Guys N Dolls was in its heyday. GND attracted the younger crowd who partied to the loud live music out on the back patio, and did a lot of smoochin' and under-aged drinking inside. I understand that visits to the upstairs apartment led to more extra-curriculars.
That's not the same Guys n' Dolls I've been told about. Perhaps that was later, when it started to run down.

That's very true. I think we do need to hold him to a higher standard on this. :thumb:

Stopped in for a beer the other night. the place looks great! They are very proud of their beer prices though. $3.25 for a bottle. No happy hour pricing. Draft was not working yet. Menu looked good. The place was well staffed. Looks like the weekends will feature a $5.00 cover charge to see local bands. That will prevent a lot of people from stopping in for a quick beer. I'll give it another chance, but not sure if it will become a regular stop for me.:idunno:

Feeling pretty good about me not having to buy cheeseburgers.

It's not cheeseburgers. :madman:

Ruby's (and you also have to pick up the drinks tab). :D

Is the place supposed to be a bar or is it a restaurant/entertainment venue? I got the impression it was going to be the latter. Heck if you just want a couple of cheap beers, hang out at the Pub or the Saddle Club. To me your observation is about as fair as me saying I went into the Pub to buy a really nice steak and criticized them for only having cheeseburgers, fries and other bar food. Most entertainment venues that I know of don't focus on cheap beer prices.

^When you drive by the place, they have a big sign up that says, "GREAT FOOD". I think it's going for a entertainment/restaurant feel. It has not been overly busy when I've driven by.

Yeah, and normally places like that, that actually make it are packed when they first open. It'll be lucky to last a year IMO.

You tell me what it is supposed to be? I went there to find out. It currently has no identity!! Where is the entertainment so far? The house band that will play? I stopped by during the middle of the week-- so I should pay too much for a not so cold beer with no entertainment? Jack up the price when somebody is playing, but not during the middle of the week! $5.00 cover on the weekends, expensive beer, If you look at the menu on line it does not mention the steaks they are going to have, just the Elvis Burger and a few other sandwiches. Clyde, I'm with you. If it makes it 2 years I'll help you buy burgers at the PUB! My buddy I was with set the time line at Christmas. Trust me I want this place to work in the worse way. Love the location, beautiful place, they just need to find a niche that works and brings in the crowd. Maybe it won't be my kind of place, but that's OK. I just don't know who will frequent the place.

OK, so I went back over the weekend to see what was going on. Nice crowd late Friday and the band is very good. They play a lot of country and a lot of originals. Plenty of dancers out on the floor. The place is so big it can have a lot of people in there and still loot like it is not crowded. The crowd had a mix of older folks cutting the rug (actually the hardwood) and the younger cougar hunters were slamming drinks over in the bar area. It looked busy again on Saturday, but I did not stop in.

I recently received an invite for the one year anniversary of Guys and Dolls. So i dug up this old thread. What are the observations so far? Will Leather neck or Clyde be buying the Burgers--or is it dinner and drinks at Ruby's?

I'm still waiting for the oldie national touring acts to stop by. The closest they have had to that is a few nights of Fast Forward playing Journey or Styx tunes. They have had trivia nights, college nights etc. trying to lure the college scene. Thought is was to be a family place? I've had one lunch there and been there a couple of weekend nights. I like the place, but it is just like every other business that has gone in there. It lacks a true identity. Every place has tried to be something for everyone which means you never know what you will get when you go there.
