Especially in such a weak division.The Reds could fall out of the race for all sorts of reasons ... the young pitchers hit a wall or the lack of offense finally overwhelms everything else. You're setting up an argument where if the Reds fall out of the race, you can pin it on one tough loss to the Cardinals. One game, no matter how gut-wrenching it is, overshadows an entire season.

We face a lot of lefties & then we go to NY and face Santana. :irked: Hopefully Volquez can return immediately following the All-Star Break. As bad as giving up 22 runs is, I'm just as frustrated with only scoring 1 (and getting 5 hits).

July 7, 200917 yr Prime example of one game setting the stage for the rest of the season... Team A goes into a game against Team B. Team A is 11-2 going into the game. Team B is the worst team in the conference. Team B beats team A to avoid a sweep. Team A then proceeds to finish the season with a record of 20-17. (9-15 the rest of the season)
July 7, 200917 yr Volquez is no where close to coming back... He was just cleared to throw from 60 feet a few days ago. He'll continue to stretch the arm out & long toss before getting cleared to throw off of a mound. He's been pain free & I think the inflammation in his elbow has subsided. After he gets cleared he'll probably make at least 2, maybe 3 or 4 starts in the minors. I'm holding out hope that he'll be back by the end of July, but we'll see.
