Somebody cue the Benny Hill music....

In all seriousness. It only counts as one loss in the books. Just got to bounce back tomorrow night.

I'm getting old. Last night I saw Tony Gwynn's son playing for the Padres and now I see John Mayberry's son playing for the Phils. Who is next? Mike Lum's son?

Would there be any teams out there willing to take Arroyo off the Reds' hands if they ate half his salary? Would the Reds be willing to do so?

I think this is a pretty big game to set the tone in this series and hopefully take 3 of 4.

Well, hopefully this wasn't a sign of things to come

You can't say that. They came back and got a big win on Saturday.

I mean that is true but I was there Sat and that pitcher for the Birds was throwing batting practice. I think the Pujols slam took the wind out of the sails and who knows of the effect of tonight.

22-1 ... counts the same as a 3-2 loss.

If they win Friday night they would have gone into Sunday tied for first....instead they were 2 games back....now they're 3.5 games back. This team is falling...and falling fast

The Pujols home run took a lot more out of the team than this 22-1 loss. I can say that with 100% confidence

Didn't the Reds come back and tie the score after Pujols' homer?

Yes....I should say that loss took a lot more out of the team than the 22-1 loss, maybe not simply the home run.

And considering that the Reds won the next day ... I would say they recovered from it OK.

Just because they won doesn't mean it didn't take a lot out of them. Heck the Nationals win every now and again. They weren't exactly facing a good pitcher.

They win that game friday they are 1.5 games out right now. Instead they are 3.5 back...that makes a big difference considering the teams they are facing over the next 3 weeks.

And maybe, just maybe, you're overreacting to a tough loss.

Heck, Thompson came into the game with virtually the same ERA as Owings ...
