But you all are saying that teams don't look back on certain games, or certain series throughout the season, as a possible turning point in the year....When in reality that's exactly what they do. Yes, its just one game in July, but every game is just as important as the next.

No they will look back at it, but it isn't as much of a turning point as having to use a terrible Arroyo for a month longer than they should. They won't compete for the division unless the leader of the division stays around .500. They never would have earlier in the year if the leaders weren't around .500. Their offense is terrible and that has absolutely nothing to do w/ blowing a lead last week. They got off the mat and won the next game against the Cards. They got off the mat after a 3 TD loss to the Phillies and beat them the next night coming back from 3 runs down. That one blown game hasn't cost them any more than a blown game.

I realize that Bruce's OPB is awful, but when it comes down to it, all that matters is runs, whether they are runs driven in, or runs scored, and he is just as productive in those categories.

 

That's not entirely true. He may have close to the same amount of RBIs and Runs scored but he doesn't come through nearly as often as Pence when given the chance. Take a closer look:

That Bruce being sent down to AAA wouldn't do him any good, that there are not better options at the AAA level, and that the fact remains that Bruce's RBI and Runs scored total is still the same, or close to the same as the other two right fielders.

Maybe the best option is to just drop him down out of the run producing spots and hit him 7th or 8th like they did last night. Something needs to be done because with an already anemic offense the Reds can't afford to have someone hitting .165 with RISP in the 2-6 spots in the order.

Pretty telling as to the meaning of a game they had in their back pocket to win.

There is no such thing as cruising with a 3-0 lead in GABP ...

The biggest problem is this: Bruce's woeful OBP isn't doing anything to perpetuate the offense. He's not giving the rest of the offense many opportunities to add to the run total. The fact that he has scored fewer runs than the other guys bears that out.
