Honestly...this wouldn't have even been an OT issue if Magic, esp. Howard and Turkoglu or however you spell it would have made free throws. It's unreal that they missed that many free points. Magic lost this game, and it was theirs to win.

 

Kobe got away with a nice and dirty elbow to the face at the end to get Fisher that nice three.

I'm no Kobe apologist. When I saw the play in real time, I thought "Kobe gets another call".

 

However, when watching it in slow motion, it looks like Nelson was moving into Kobe and that the elbow just happened to clip him - that it was unintentional.

As far as the Pietrus foul, I honestly have nothing against it. The Lakers won the game, up 5 with 3 seconds, and Gasol was showing up the Magic, in the finals, on their home court. That's classless. I know you should show "better sportsmanship" and maybe "two wrongs don't make a right", but I think a large majority of players would do the same thing if they were in Pietrus' shoes, including most people on this board, if in the same situation.

 

The Magic basically lost this game for two reasons:

 

1) Free throws. You can't expect to win games if you can't make free throws in the final minute.

 

2) Jameer Nelson. I know he's an all start point guard, but the guy should NOT be in the game! He has been out for how long, and all that while Rafer Alston has played great and helped carry his team to the FINALS!!! Alston sat the bench the ENTIRE 4th quarter and overtime!!!!!!!!! That’s a joke! Meanwhile, Nelson played awful defense, scored 2 points, and had 3 assists for the game. Big whoop.

 

Now the series is 3-1, and the Magic are in win or go home mode. It's crazy how a missed layup converted and a free throw going in, the Magic could easily be up 3-1 instead of down 3-1. Basketball is a crazy game!

Me too. I don't know how good of a coach he is, but he's not bad with the X's and O's. And he is entertaining to say the least.

 

I hate Kobe and the Lakers with a passion! If the Magic hit their FT's we wouldn't even be talking about this. Kobe is nothing but a little girl! He gets all the dang calls! Don't get me wrong he is one of a heck of a player but people need to stop saying Kobe and Lebron is the next MJ. There will never ever be another MJ!

You're right there won't be another MJ. Kobe is a different player, and other than the way that his game has progressed I don't see a comparison for the two. Offensively, they are both very advanced, Jordan was craftier and Kobe has more range and possibly a better shooting touch. As for LeBron, he's nothing like Jordan. I do think that LBJ is the most talented player of all-time, and if he keeps on pace will pass Jordan, but the two really cannot be compared because of how different there games are. To me that's like comparing Larry Bird and Bill Russell, you just can't really do it.

 

That was a dirty play by Pietrus at the end, I would not be suprised if he got fined, he should not be suspended because it is the Finals, but definately fined. Although the Lakers should not have tried to score there, no need, bad sportsmanship. But sportsmanship like that comes with experience and Ariza will learn that. But definately a very dirty play by Pietrus. He is not a dirty player, but just a dirty play.

 

Gasol is the one who dunked it.

 

If Howard had hit just 1 of those free throws the series would now be tied instead of the Magic being down 3-1.....Embarrassing loss for the Magic IMO.

 

Or if they would have gotten a few rebounds. The Magic let the Lakers have some life, and the Lakers responded.

Nothing dirty about the kick out play to Fisher, IMO. He really wasn't out of control, just pivoting to pass the ball. A no call would suffice at any point in the game on a play like that.

Probably more out of frustration, knowing that the Magic would have to play nearly perfect to win the series and had this game won only to give it away.

LA just advanced it up the court to the open man and it ended up with Gasol right at the rim. You can't be serious saying that the cheap shot may have been warranted.

Go watch some 80's basketball, I don't know if I would want a player to do that if I were coaching. But, yeah right or wrong he is lucky that Pietrus isn't dirty or he could have really gotten fouled hard. I don't like dirty basketball, but in some circles that could get you hurt. Warranted? I don't know. You make a good point about the Magic pressuring the ball, but at the same time with that kind of pressure would you want to dribble it out to force a foul and more importantly waste time? Gasol was trying to put a finishing stamp on the game, in a showboat way, and Pietrus fouled in frustration.

Just because a guy is closing out the guy with the ball (probably so they don't try to score) does not mean they are pressuring it and trying to steal it. There was 3 seconds left. The game was over.
