I enjoy Letterman but I would be fuming if that was my 14 year old daughter. I would look him up! I guess he has to stir the pot with Conan in Lenos place... Conan is actually funny so there's competition.

Yeah, Palin is a public figure by her own decision. Shots and jokes about her regardless of how tasteless come with the territory. Jokes about your kids are off base, especially a joke of this nature.

Letterman has become a Kieth O junior. In fact maybe he can take over Keith O's Countdown show since he already knows how to do that.

 

As an up and coming political hack he should know kids are off limits. 18, 14 years old - why does in matter? A rape jock about either is over the line. And his writers knew it was the 14 year old at the park and still thought it was worthy of putting in the scripted set of jokes.

Imus was fired because the owners were afraid he was "bad for business." If they thought his comments were "good for business" he would not have been fired. Same with Letterman.

 

No, it was about a double standard. The tasteless comments about the black players got the guy fired. The jokes about a conservative, white woman is OK.

What is wrong with this country, in part, is the acceptance of this type of trash as comedy. But mix this incident with other liberal trashy ideas and that is why we have many of the moral problems that we have in the US.

Did none of you watch the video where he comments on this? He was adamant that he would never endorse sexual abuse to a minor by joking about it.

 

I would also ask you to remember many many folks taking shots at Chelsea Clinton for being an ugly child.

For the record, I agree with Pep, there is nothing that is off limits in my book. However, if you are going to try and make excuses for him, as many are trying to do in here, don't use ignorance.

Apparently at 28 years old, a 'kid' is still off base since MSNBC reporter David Schuster was suspended last year for saying that Hillary Clinton was 'pimping' Chelsea Clinton by having Chelsea make campaign appearances for her.

I do not think it is as much a Rep/Dem issue as it is a woman issue.... in that Letterman showed disrespect to women. I am not a female and I cannot judge the severity of the flight attendant comment, but it seemed pretty harsh to me.

As for Palin, she would be best to just move on and keep her mouth shut. Matt Lauer pushed her on the issue this morning and she kept going and going on about it. Letterman was exposed for his comments and I am sure he is a little embarrassed by it. Let it be and move on.

Its ok to joke about a conservative white woman, its that simple.
