June 12, 200917 yr Yeah, Palin is a public figure by her own decision. Shots and jokes about her regardless of how tasteless come with the territory. Jokes about your kids are off base, especially a joke of this nature. I really do wish that was the case.

Whether or not Palin is a Republican should be irrelevant to the thread topic, but you'll notice that those who support Republicans fit neatly into the "inappropriate" crowd, and those who don't support Republicans fit neatly into the "it's comedy" or "there's been worse" crowd. People just love to fit themselves into their designated boxes, and the actual issue becomes a moot point. It's really disappointing, in fact.

June 12, 200917 yr Letterman's joke was inappropriate and not funny, but why does Gov. Palin have to take everything that involves her and relate it to the "Hollywood elite and/or Democrats not resonating with regular Americans?" I mean, don't get me wrong, I understand that she was given a raw deal with the way that the majority of Americans were told to think of her, but her act gets old sometimes. I thought the jokes were funny and I think some people take things waaaaaaaaaaaaaayy too seriously. Dave probably didn't even write the jokes...come on this is not that big of a deal. And I am in no way a Letterman fan.

I have been and will ALWAYS be of the mindset that anything and everything is open season when it comes to a joke. A joke is not a serious comment, it is meant for the sake of a laugh and at times for the sake of pointing out the absurdity of society. People need to take things less seriously, good lord.

June 12, 200917 yr FWIW, I consider myself a Republican and I don't see why everyone is making a big deal out of the comments. I never even saw the original joke, but because Palin et al. made such a big deal out of it, I checked it out. June 12, 200917 yr Letterman has become a Kieth O junior. In fact maybe he can take over Keith O's Countdown show since he already knows how to do that. As an up and coming political hack he should know kids are off limits. 18, 14 years old - why does in matter? A rape jock about either is over the line. And his writers knew it was the 14 year old at the park and still thought it was worthy of putting in the scripted set of jokes.
