Letterman's Comments on Palin & Daughter?

Featured Replies

He talked about Palin's daughter who was visiting New York--She's 14!!!!

He says he was joking about Bristol which would make sense to me since she's the one that got impregnated.

If she WASN'T a Republican, he'd already have been fired!! How do you think the media would have reacted to those statements about one of Obama's daughters for example??

Did you not watch the show during the 8 years of Bill Clinton?

His "comments" were classless and over the line, as was his "apology".. Way worse than the Don Imus issue and he was fired...

Imus was fired because the owners were afraid he was "bad for business." If they thought his comments were "good for business" he would not have been fired. Same with Letterman.

How would it have played if Hannity, Beck or Boortz said the same thing about Chelsey when she was a teen or the current first daughters? IMHO they would have lost their jobs.

What if the same guys had called Hillary a "bad word" stewardess as Letterman referred to Palin?

Funny or not isn't the issue, tacky or not isn't either. If a 62 year old man thinks he has to take a shot at someones 14 year old daughter to get ratings then that is his problem. My issue with this whole thing is how the press have for the most part given him a pass on this but would have lost their ever loving mind if it had been one of the examples stated above. A female reporter on NBC was interviewing someone about this and when he started hammering Letterman she began to talk over him and asked that his mike be turned off.

You think that episode Letterman's show sent a chill down Olbermann's leg.....I bet it did.

Did none of you watch the video where he comments on this? He was adamant that he would never endorse sexual abuse to a minor by joking about it.

I would also ask you to remember many many folks taking shots at Chelsea Clinton for being an ugly child.

This is the same link as in post #4. I don't find humor in this.

This was in reply to Jumper Dad's direct question to me.

That's fine. Humor is subjective. The issue isn't whether you find it funny or not. Its simply a question of it being over the line. This debate has been going on for decades.

Yeah I did, don't remember any shots like this towards Chelsey.

No you don't because he didn't make any against the child. However, he killed Bill and Hillary.

You were OK with the " flight attendant" joke?

This reminds me of the Erin Calipari situation, Pat Forde was just doing his job. David Letterman was just doing his.

It was over the line. Plain and simple

You forgot to add "IMO."

Yeah, Palin is a public figure by her own decision. Shots and jokes about her regardless of how tasteless come with the territory. Jokes about your kids are off base, especially a joke of this nature.

Letterman's joke was inappropriate and not funny, but why does Gov. Palin have to take everything that involves her and relate it to the "Hollywood elite and/or Democrats not resonating with regular Americans?" I mean, don't get me wrong, I understand that she was given a raw deal with the way that the majority of Americans were told to think of her, but her act gets old sometimes.

Its part of the rules. You always associate liberals with Hollywood and New York.
