June 10, 200917 yr IMHO, this is the foreshadowing hire and replacement for Pitino...sooner than later. (If it is official.)
June 10, 200917 yr IMHO, this is the foreshadowing hire and replacement for Pitino...sooner than later. (If it is official.) That's weird. Willard was successful at Western, nothing special at Pitt, and has spent the last several years coaching at Holy Cross in the Patriot League. He might be a good candidates to be head coach at Louisville, but that seems strange to me.

June 10, 200917 yr No way this is a "Joker Phillips" hire. Willard will not be the next coach. This is Pitino simply getting a good X/O's man to help him out and bring some stability to the young coaches he has. He didn't have a Head Asst. last year, and I think he realizes he needs that role and McCarty and Mass are too young to do it.
June 10, 200917 yr Good hire. I think Pitino understands the importance of knowledge vs youth and energy. Will be great help when it comes to the offense.
June 10, 200917 yr What's ironic is that his son Kevin Willard had that job a couple of years ago. The son is supposed to replace the father right? Good hire though. Willard and Pitino go back and I'm sure Rick could use an old friend or two these days.
June 11, 200917 yr Willard is at least in his 60's. Probably would get paid more at UL than at Holy Cross.
