June 1, 200917 yr Author Dolamite, sounds like both you and I are very fortunate. And yeah, I already know what you mean about being scared to drive. My dad and I went out today so I could buy a new car, and I was literally terrified driving home. I rarely drive with both hands on the wheel, stupid I know, but they were both clutched as tight as possible the entire way home. Definitely will be driving slower from here on out.

June 1, 200917 yr I'm glad you're OK. Luck is a funny thing ain't it? Learn from it, because, I'm sorry, you'll never forget it. Some folks from Whitley County know that the little valley after the old Buchannan place and the I-75 underpass on Cripple Creek Road (KY 836) is slick after a rain and murder when it's iced over. I say a valley, but the road really is a break in the hill with a bank coming down to the road on the east side and the continuance down to the bottom of the hill on the west side of the road. No guard rail. January 33 years ago, I was coming home from work at 1 am on a Sunday morning, when I rounded the corner and hit that stretch like I'd done hundreds of times. However, it was iced over this time and I was tired and not paying attention. I really have no idea how fast I was going. The next thing I know I'm in the ditch on the east side of the road riding the bank and probably would have been OK had it not been for that tree stump sticking out of the bank. (I can see it coming at me right now.) The car hit that, tore up the drivers side, and threw the vehicle back up on the road. I remember thinking, "OK, we're going to be all right here." Then "uh oh" when I could not get it back under control and went over the bank on the other side and down into the woods bouncing off a tree or two before slamming into a big oak, grill first. I smacked my head pretty good on the windshield, but I didn't pass out and managed to get out of the passenger side when I thought I smelled something burning. We're talking 1976, now. There were no cell phones, my CB was antenna was gone, so that was out, and I was on a country road at 1 am getting a headache that beat the band. No chance of passers by until dawn. I was also a good 5 miles from home. I climbed up to the road and walked it. When I got home, my Dad looked me over, then into my eyes, held up to fingers and said "How many?" when I answered correctly, he told Mom, "He'll be OK. Just put a trash can by his bed so he doesn't vomit on the floor." I ended up with a bruised left shoulder and hip, which I didn't feel until I woke up, but no concussion that I know of. We winched my poor Hornet out, when it got light, and drug it home with the tractor. Amazing at it sounds, the frame was not bent. It took me six months, but I got that thing back on the road and drove it for another 2 years.
June 1, 200917 yr Glad that your alright. Time will take the jitters away. But every time you pass that spot in the road you'll get a shiver. I know. About 30 years ago I had a bad wreck and only got a couple of cracked ribs out of it. It should have been a lot worse. Ever since then when I pass that spot I think. What if.
